Age of Colectomy

How old were you guys when you had colon removed? Just curious. I am 34 and probably will have it done soon. Been living too long with uc. 15 years almost.

I was 10 years old when I had my ileostomy surgery due to UC - I'm 44 in a couple of weeks from now and it's still going strong :)

I was 41 when I had my colectomy and hit 42 for my reversal.

I had my ostomy done at the age of 66.  That was four years ago.  My only regret is that I didn't have it done 30 years earlier.

10 1/2 months ago, I was 32. My only regret is not doing it 10 years earlier when it was first mentioned.

     Had a total colectomy with end ileostomy on June 28th after suffering with ulcerative proctitis for twelve years.  I was 63 when I had my surgery.

I had mine done 6 months ago after suffering with Crohn's for 10 years.

I have been thankful every day since. It is so worth it. Very few of us on here are unhappy with our decision.

should have had it done at 32 when I had my temp ileo...I was 40 and it was my birthday gift to me:):):)<3

I had permanent ileostomy and proctocolectomy done 18mths ago when I was 46 due to crohns/colitis that I was diagnosed with and battling with for the past 22 years. Like all the others I am very happy to have had the surgery it has given me quality of life finally, my surgery was emergency so i did struggle a bit in the beginning getting used to it but now I couldn't be happier with it.

I had my proctocolectomy (colon and rectum removal) and ileostomy done 4 years ago when I was 35 after suffering with Crohn's for 7 years. I also wish I would have done it years earlier, because life is great now!! :-)

"Privey" is just a little over a year old. My situation was different than some of yours. I had a bad case of C-dif which made my colon toxic and I had UC. I never had the rushing to the bathroom or obstacles some of the others face. I was air vaced to Topeka and my husband and daughter got the call on their way driving to Topeks stating that if they did a ileo right away I would have a 66% chance of living and if they didn't I wouldn't live.....I woke up with "Privey". I don't think I'll ever have a reversal as they said I only have 7" of colon left and I would have constant poops so it sounds like it is permanent.

Had my colectomy/ileostomy at 63 years old. Diagnosed with UC at about 30 YO. Totally in remission until 60 YO. Total hell between 60 and 63.

  Hello, I was 53 when I had my Total Colectomy.  So glad I did have the surgery, I feel so much better.  They told me for Years that it was just IBS and this is just how my live was going to be, and that was not acceptable.  So I got referred to OSHU in Portland Oregon had some test done.

Then came home not satisfied with the option they gave me which was Bio_Feed Back which I looked into and not a very high success rate plus most insurance will not cover it and its expensive and you need to go often.

So I found a general surgeon in my home town and talked to him and he did another Sitz Marker Test on me, and sure as heck my colon was not working..this was on a monday and had the surgery for a Total Colectomy on that Friday, they hooked me all back up.  Coming out of recovery I knew I was going to be better because I woke up feeling good when I always felt ill inside.  To me it was a miracle the immedient change.  I have had a few bumps along the way as my surgery was Feb 19,10.  So doing well.  So good luck to you, and keep on top of everything, and if you dont like what one doc says go to another

I was 15 when i had my total colectomy. and i got my appendix removed :) but i think everyone gets it removed. lolz. but getting the surgery was the best choice ive made in a while.
