MACGIRL Hello, I was 53 when I had my Total Colectomy. So glad I did have the surgery, I feel so much better. They told me for Years that it was just IBS and this is just how my live was going to be, and that was not acceptable. So I got referred to OSHU in Portland Oregon had some test done.
Then came home not satisfied with the option they gave me which was Bio_Feed Back which I looked into and not a very high success rate plus most insurance will not cover it and its expensive and you need to go often.
So I found a general surgeon in my home town and talked to him and he did another Sitz Marker Test on me, and sure as heck my colon was not working..this was on a monday and had the surgery for a Total Colectomy on that Friday, they hooked me all back up. Coming out of recovery I knew I was going to be better because I woke up feeling good when I always felt ill inside. To me it was a miracle the immedient change. I have had a few bumps along the way as my surgery was Feb 19,10. So doing well. So good luck to you, and keep on top of everything, and if you dont like what one doc says go to another
