Well, I finally took the big step and have scheduled surgery. Cannot go on with problems and prednisone. I will be cured of UC on Nov. 1 in Memphis. I will be having the jpouch. This will be my first surgery.

I am scared, obviously, and need everyones prayers. I don't know what to expect but can't wait to feel better.

Doctor says I will be in the hospital for a week and off work for two months. I am hoping to go back to work sooner.

Any words of wisdom or encourage will be helpful. I don't really know what to expect.

Hey MacGirl, I just wished you well in the UC forum. I only work part-time, but I was able to go back three weeks after my first surgery. You just have to listen to your body. One bit of advice I will give you concerns the bags they put on you in the hospital. No one told me this - I guess it's common sense - but they only use the clear bags there so they can monitor your output. I can't tell you how much better, personally, I felt when I got home and my supplies arrived and I was able to change to a flesh-toned bag that hides the contents. Just a little tidbit. Wow, you only have like two weeks to go. Are you having the two-step? (I had to have 3) and is it open or laproscopic? I felt pretty good three weeks out from both surgeries. Good luck! You are going to do great. I'm excited for you. Keep us posted.

I will be cut open. That is scary. The surgeon said it would be three steps.

MacGirl, that's exactly what I am having too - 3 steps, open. It is scary but as long as you have a good surgeon you will be fine. With the three steps it seems like such a long process but you will be amazed how fast time flies.

and about the bags at the hospital, your original output will probably be bright green and smell horrible!!! it won't stay that way. I didnt know about the bags or the output either, i usually try to remember to tell people, because it really freaked me out!
the output changes after you start eating though.

MacGirl, I had my second of three surgeries on Sept. 21. I'm suppose to have my third one on Dec. 14, if that dye test goes OK. I had six months between the first two surgeries because it was summertime and I had too much going on with the kids to take time off. I could have had the second one about three months after the first.
