I ate my 1st banana Thursday night and I chewed it well, but I noticed clumps of banana coming out of my stoma, but I still felt fine. Friday morning at 6am, I started having cramps and massive output. This went on for about 6 hours....I never threw up, but felt nauseous and I got dehydrated from all of the watery output. The cramps finally went away and I took 1 immodium to slow down the output. Today, I feel fine. Does this sound like a partial blockage or a virus?
I bought some canned peaches and pears, but am not paranoid to try them. I may stick with pureed bananas from now on.
Oh, this is so funny, I went to see my surgeon Wednesday due to the bulge above my stoma. Well, that morning I had eaten powdered doughnuts. WOW, the output was thick, powdery, and the lightest yellow, almost white. Me and my doctor were both going, WOE, what in the heck is that? He said, "what in the world did you eat?" When I told him powdered doughnuts, he just burst out laughing.
He said I do have a parastomal hernia....UGH, but said it is not too bad. He said the parastomal hernias are more common with the loops than the ends. He stuck his finger into my stoma...freaked me out because I was anticipating pain, but luckily, I felt nothing. I will eventually get another surgery and will probably make this temporary loop ileostomy made into a permanent end ileostomy. He said he will use mesh with the end ileostomy to reinforce the abdominal wall.
I also have low b12. Anyone else experience low b12 after having an ileostomy? I now get b12 injections week.
Working was hard at 1st, but has gotten easier as time has gone on. Sex is awesome and the ileostomy has not slowed me or my husband down one bit. I thought I would be less desirable in my husbands eyes, but this has not shown to be the case at all. I have gained 6 pounds since the surgery because of a combination of I can now eat comfortably and quitting smoking, but I am just trying to be mindful of how much I eat. I am still walking everyday and I am increasing how far I go every couple of weeks. I can now walk 3 miles easily. I still can not jog and I assume I will not be able to until I get the hernia repaired???
Despite everything though, life is good with the "bag" and I wish I would have done this sooner.
