Welcome, Sara, and thank you for sharing your story. Crohn's Disease almost took my life, too, so I can relate to the pain and suffering you're going through.
I also vowed that I would never have a bag, but after 7 years of trying every medicine and diet, I was still extremely sick. So, I didn't have much choice but to have my diseased colon and rectum removed.
The first couple of months after surgery were the worst trying to navigate my way through the post-op pain and this new life with an ostomy. It didn't help that my dad passed away two weeks later. Talk about
a double whammy.
I live in Florida, too, and there's an organization that gives out free ostomy supplies to Florida residents. It's called www.ostogroup.org. You should definitely check into it.
There are a lot of experienced people here who can also give you good advice and tips to prevent leaks. Sometimes, all you need is a convex wafer with an Eakin Seal to get 5 good days from your wafer. We are here to help.
Hang in there. It will get better, I promise.
