Golytely Alternative??

I've taken Miralax as a substitute. But I was so backed up prior to surgery that I had to take the Miralax, Magnesium Citrate x 2, lactolose, and half the jug of Golytely with no results. The Miralax doesn't have a taste and you can mix it with anything but I think you would mix it with water for a prep.

There are pills you can take but they are the size of nickels and taste like a salt lick. You also need to take a handful for each 'dose.'

I measure out individual doses of Golytely and put it in whatever beverage I feel like chugging down at the moment. Some suggest flavoring all of the powder, but I can't stand drinking only lemonade or Sprite.

I had an emergency colostomy done in June, due to Perforated Diverticulosis. They only took about 8 inches of my intestine. My Surgeon today insisted on the Golytely. My concern was the high salt content and all the bad side effects I read on it. I also have High Blood Pressure and A-Fib, which  I rarely get any symptoms. Right now, my stomach is grumbling! Im trying not to eat anything, which Im allowed soft foods and liquids, but Im trying to avoid eating anything, so I dont have to drink all that Golytely tomorrow!

Summerstorm... I dont know what "kind" of ostomy I have! All I know is that I have a hole to the left of my belly button. Mines also Inverted, so its just a hole there, and I just cut a hole in a bag and stick it on there. The hole is about the size of my pinky finger now. My surgeon said, because I was FAT ( thanks doc) that there is only so much intestine that they can pull up there, thats why mine didnt stick out. 

Even tho im scared out of my mind right now, hopefully, I wont have to go thru this anymore. My surgeon stated that I have a 10%  chance that it wont work. If the ends are too damaged or if they cant find it would be the reasons. Then, I was told, I might have to get another Temporary Colostomy to give the Intestine a rest??? What??!!!!! Im still mad because my belly button is not centered anymore!!

But I do have to say, Ive read this board alot, and had alot of good laughs. Im glad people see the humor in what they have to deal with. I have had people say to me "How can you think what you have is funny" My answser is... I cannot sit and cry about it, I have to find the humor somewhere, or else I would have been depressed and lost my mind a long time ago. There was nothing I could do to avoid what has happened. My life was saved and thats what counts!

I have laughed and laughed at peoples posts on their "blow outs" and dropping the bags etc.  I have stupidely, undone my bag, then turned to do something else and  Splash! I have  drank Prune Juice ( ha ha) and the took my bag off and  wound up standing in the tub for like 30 minutes.! My Husband forgot to take then back off the bag and I was running around with it not sticking!  I have had these accidents, and laughed, thinking about what I have read on here and that I wasnt alone!!
