How do you know you're allergic?

I have had my temporary ileo since June 21st and I too am still learning...but, I have found that if I switch between products, primarily Hollister and Convatec, that the itching and general uncomfortableness is greatly reduced. I have found overall that Hollister is the most comfortable being more pliable and softer, but the wafer seems to fail me after the 3rd or 4th day, whereas with Convatecs moldable wafer, the wafer can last for 7 days.

Have you tried Hollister?

it could be a reaction to the adhesive on the tape, which varies from brand to brand, but not necessarily an allergy. Either way if it bugs you try something else, can't hurt right? Convatec tape made me break out in a rash, but hollister's didn't. Many brands usually have a tapeless wafer too. First few times i tried coloplast i got a rash from the edge thingy they have instead of tape, but i gave them one last go (because i prefer their bags) and no more rash! sometimes your skin and change its sensitivities randomly.

when was your surgery? the general uncomfortableness stopped for me at week 7 when i finally figured out a system that worked for me for a whole week with no itching. Plus i'd finally healed enough then that it didn't always feel like my insides were coming out. Now I'm almost at week 9 and it feels like I've been comfortable for much longer than 2 weeks. I tried 8 different wafer/bag combos before i got the one i liked. so get yourself some samples and find the one that makes you comfortable, you'll feel so much better once you do. good luck on the hunt!
