blockage after colostamy

Hi there, My mam suffers with colitus and had to go for surgery to get the colostamy bag fitted three years ago. She had a few problems after but she has been doing really well recently. She then woke up with severe pain in her abdominal area and got very weak thursday morning. She was brought into hospital and has been there since.
She has a bloakage in her intestine which they thought would work itself out as this can be quite common after surgery. Unfortunitly there has been no change and there is nothing coming into the colostamy bag at all. They are going to wait till the end of the day and they are prepping her for surgery tomorrow if there is still no improvement. The thought of her going through another surgery is terrible the last thing she needs...Has anyone gone through this themselves or have any advice?

My son had the exact thing happen to him about 3 months after surgery. They inserted a tube through his nose and down his throat and with very gentle suction they were able to dislodge the obstruction. I can totally understand your concern, as he was in so much pain it was ridiculous and we rushed him to the hospital at 2:00 in the morning...He was there for about 2 days, and did not need surgery. Have they tried this yet with your mom?

I have had that happen twice since my surgery 10 months ago. Mine was not caused by adhesions or by food. It was a kink or twisting of my intestines. I am having mesh put in near my intestines so it won't happen again, hopefully.
