Ouuuuu, I see. So, this doc could be a real brain but not sensitive. OK, glad you have the heads up. Too bad brains and personality do not always come together.
Here is a suggestion for strategy then. Best way to deal with this type is to play it all his way. And keep it short.
1. Call his office, briefly explain what you want. Ask what is the best way to ask him if he would be williing to evaluate you for possible rectal mucous suctioning (this way you are not assuming he will do it. Docs like this like that you make no assumptions.)
2. Then do whatever communication the office person on the phone suggests: a return call from him, a fax, an email. Do it whatever way he wants.
3. When you do your communication, make it very brief. This type and most docs like it this way:
a. I have an ileostomy due to pelvic floor dysfunction. I have no underlying crones, no colitis, no cancer.
b. There was question of possible rectovaginal fistula.
c. I have rectal mucous that is trapped, I cannot get it outwith enema's as suggested by my doc, it is very uncomfortable.
d. If I made an appointment with you, would you be willing to consider suctioning out the mucous with a small sigmoidoscope?
Hodaya, this is just a sample of possible wording you could use. BUT, it's short, enumerated, no emotion. These types of docs DO NOT LIKE EMOTION! So glad you mentioned what you had heard about him as now I can guide you. With this enumerated fact method approach, he may just help you out. Do call his office and let me know how they best suggest to get in touch with him.
