Hi

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me of any signs that i should look out for so that I know if maybe my reversal hasn't worked and I may need to think about going back to having a bag.  Also if you feel that the reversal isn't working for you is it an option to just have the bag again anyway.

Have you had the surgery yet? I really can't help too much because I just had step 1 of 2 four weeks ago. I don't think it's that common for your pouch to
fail, though. I am paranoid about a lot of things, but for some reason I am just not concerned about it not working.

As far as your other question, yes if it doesn't work you can go back to an illeostomy.

I actually had the reversal on dec 13th 2010, and although I was really looking forward to the end result is has been nothing like i expected.  People keep telling me to give it more time and although I do appreciate this advice the illness has affected my life so much already I just want to get back to some sort of normality.

I know that making the decision to have the bag again is a massive one and not one that I would take lightly but at the moment it is looking like a very good option.

There comes a point when you have enough. They always told me the same thing, that it would get better, and it did somewhat. It went from unbearable to mostly tolerable for me. If you are plagued with chronic pouchitis, your choice it to keep taking antibiotics, or go back with the bag. I had surgery for U.C. to keep all those drugs I was taking from killing me, and now here I am again taking lots of drugs. You do have to give it some time, but after a period, if it is a choice between being sick and miserable, or going back to a bag and being healthy, I know which one I will chose. I'm going to see a surgeon soon. As for you, try if you can to stick it out at least 4 months. I would think if it hasn't improved much be then, then it never will.
