I have my post-op and pre-op scheduled for March 23rd. Reversal will be on April 4th. My last pre-op at CC I was there for the whole day meeting with so many people and doing so many tests. This time the said all I had to do was get an x-ray then have my appointment with my surgeon.

What is the x-ray for? To see if the pouch is ready and looking good?

Also, Scrap Girl, did you have to see anyone else or do any other tests during your reversal pre-op? Maybe because it is a lesser surgery and because I just had all these tests I don't have to do all the stuff I had to do last time?

It is such a long drive back from the CC, it would be nice to know what to expect.

The test you will get is called a pouchoscopy. They will insert contrast fluid in your pouch and then take mulitple xrays that will check for leaks. It's not a horrible procedure but a tad uncomfortable. Be sure to take an extra wafer and bag in the event the contrast blows through the ostomy and causes a leak. There will be no prep for surgery; you will not eat after midnight, at least that was how my surgeon did it. There should be no other tests.

You probably won't be there long at all. I was able to have my pouch x-ray and pre-ops the day before surgery which was nice because we didn't have to make two trips. If I remember right - and keep in mind I forget things that happened yesterday - I had blood drawn that day but I didn't have to have another exam by a physician to make sure I was healthy enough to have surgery again. Yeah, the pouchoscopy was not my favorite. It's not a lot of fun to have the tube insterted back there and I had to have it done multiple times because the x-ray machine wouldn't work so we had to change rooms then it wasn't in right and all of that liquid pooled underneath me. Also, I think my bag was about ready to explode all over the room it was hard as a rock and all of that liquid from the test pours into it pretty quickly. I'm sure yours will go much smoother! Did you ever order your bidet seat? Still a big believer in those. I know you don't have to have one but it's made a big difference for me and I haven't had to use any creams since I got mine. Plus, I feel oh so clean ;)

I'm doing pretty well. Not sure how many times I'm going during the day but the mornings are normally fairly quiet - might go one or twice - and things pick up in the afternoon and mainly the evening hours. I'm really suprised but most nights I sleep straight through the night. Some nights I have to wake up once. Had my first partial blockage since takedown a couple of nights ago. Woke up around 2 a.m. and I could just feel something was stuck. It was pretty painful. I think it worked its way down after some help on my part and then I woke up a couple of hours later in pain - think it hit another kink. Eventually went back to sleep and when I woke up I felt much better. Just didn't get a lot of sleep that night.

Thank you both. That x-ray doesn't sound like fun. I'm glad I don't have to have another exam, that should help
the day go faster.

SG, Did you get blockages with your illeo or was this your first time? How did you get things moving again? I am so naive, I thought the blockage would happen at the stoma site, not in the intestines. I haven't had any blockages. I even had a huge salad last night with no problems, yea! The only thing I was doing wrong according to my surgeon was not taking enough lomotil. She said that when it's so watery it is really tough on the kidneys. She now has me on immodium because it doesn't have the narcotics that lomotil has. That is so great sometimes you sleep through the night. I used to get up once a night to pee, so getting up won't be too big of a problem, but it would be nice not to have to.

I have not ordered my bidet yet :o(. I quit my job and with Christmas and all the medical bills I hate to spend the money. If I have issues, I will definately put the money out.

I had 2 or 3 blockages with my ileostomies over a nine-month period. I had both the loop and end ileos since I had the three-step. I haven't had to go to the hospital or anything but they were painful. I usually massage the abdomen because I don't know exactly where the blockage is but I can feel the pain in a general area. I'll also walk around, get in all kinds of bizarre positions, bend over while sitting on the toilet, put a heating pad on my stomach, drink grapejuice and try anything else I can think of to try to work it out. Mine usually resolve themselves within four hours.
