Ileostomy surgery set for March 1st

The stoma nurse met with us the day before the surgery. Hubby wore his jeans with a belt so she could use that in the placement determination as well as examining him on the table in his briefs and checking for folds in his skin etc.

This thread is so helpful to me, as my surgery is tomorrow, and I'm nervous....

I am doing two days of clear fluids and two enemas tonight as a prep. Last enemas ever, yay! I think the surgeon said that because she's not "putting me back together again" (i.e. first stage of j pouch) that I didn't need a regular prep. Very glad for that, although I'm hungry! Nothing like not being able to eat when you're on prednisone. Well, this is a temporary thing.

I do think it'd be crazy not to be nervous or to have some doubts. It's huge. What's been the most helpful for me is hearing all these stories of people getting so much back..... it can feel kind of theoretical when you're used to being sick all the time.... I made a list yesterday of all the things I'm looking forward to doing if the surgery goes well .... nothing all that daring, just stuff like being able to sleep through the night, eat more foods, go to concerts and plays, do volunteer work again, etc....
