Final (hopefully) visit with surgeon

     Went to the surgeon today.  In November he said "see you in three months" because I was still having some "issues".  Everything is A-OK.  I still have a bit of mucus but he said that will eventually cease altogether.  He asked if I were happy that I had the operation and my response..."Boy, am I ever!!!"  He was very glad to see me so healthy.  I have, what he called a skin flap, on the outside of the anus. I thought it was a hemmie as it itches at times.  He gave me a sample of Calmoseptine ointment.

     I thank God every day that I found Dr. Fry online.

     Yes, I am appointment free.  I had the surgery June 28th and did have some complications post op...nothing major. 

     I have sooo much faith in my surgeon.  He is super cautious.  Anyone in the Philadelphia area, I highly recommend Dr. Fry of Univ. of Pa. Hospital.

Yippee Christine! Feels great, doesn't it? I just had my last surgeon appointment this afternoon (if all continues to go well)! My abdominal incision wound is finally all closed up and my stoma is functioning perfectly. My surgeon also gave me the go-ahead to slowly get back into my favorite outdoor activities again (except climbing for now). He even told me I should try to squeeze in an easy snowboarding day before the season comes to a close. I was amazed!

I feel like I have fledged from the nest:) I have gone through several complications and have seen my surgeon every 2-3 weeks for the past four months. My husband and I have called him countless times with questions during anxious times. Now I am on my own again. It is scary and exhilarating at the same time. Of course I can still call my surgeon or wound care nurse at any time, but it is a strange feeling to be "done" and moving on in my life with an ostomy.
