physical exercise = blood drainage from no-man's land?

I'm 14 months post total proctocolectomy with rectum removal and the sewing shut of the anus. I have had little or no issues with it thus far. The rectum was where my crohn's was the most severe, so I let them cut it out and haven't looked back. However...

I spent the last 3 days doing a LOT of spring cleaning/heavy lifting/etc. Pain in the booty began midway through. Having had extensive experience with anal abscesses, it felt very similar. By last night, I could barely sit or move for the pain. Then...

In the middle of the night my butt exploded! I woke up with bloody panties and have since plowed through 5 sets of clean gauze due to continued blood/watery leakage from my quasi-anus. Since the apparent explosion, I feel considerably less pain, so it must have been building up/abscessing?

What on earth? Sitz baths are back on the agenda temporarily.

No odor, no discoloration - just pink and red watery/blood fluid. It seems to have calmed down now on the drainage, but I'm horrified to continue my spring cleaning. And not just because it's spring cleaning. The silver lining to the situation must be the fabulous excuse that, no - I can't spring clean - it makes my butt explode! Ha.

Anyone else ever have this happen after strenuous activity? Any ideas? Thanks!

I don't think I'm spooked enough to call in the cavalry yet (plus I live in the boondocks, so a trip to the city to my docs is a major ordeal, lol).

The pain has subsided enough that I doubt anything would show in a CT scan. The fluid does not distress me in and off itself... I mean - I know abscess puss all too well, and this is not puss. Just fluid.

And, I'm pretty sure antibiotics are the root of all evil, so my extremist self will do just about anything to avoid them.

I'm vexed, but not distressed. I just can't figure out how I instigated it - I mean, they tell you to "lift with your legs and not with your back", but I've never heard of anus-strain due to lifting. ha.

Patientspiders -- "anus strain due to lifting" is such a good phrase that I googled it, you might want to too..... seems that lifting weights can cause or exacerbate hemorroids, and pages for "rectal pain" come up. So, maybe you really were using more of your "whole body" than you realized....

I don't much like antibiotics either, but have dealt with some heavy duty fevers and infections the last little while..... so, I think they are better than some of the alternatives....

Can you keep it clean now, so you don't acquire a new infection with it being open and all? Probably taking your temp a few times a day is a good idea too....

I am pretty wimpy at the moment, don't want to travel too far away from my docs in case something else goes wrong.... I got really sick, really fast w/the abscess I had a few weeks ago....

Holy cow! That happened 14 months post op? I would have been on the phone with my surgeon right away. My abdominal incision started to open up for a second time two months post op and I remember thinking it wasn't that big of a deal since it was a pretty small area and not the whole thing. I went back to my surgeon and he found a pretty big abscess in there (caused by a reaction to sutures) and I had to get the entire incision opened again and scraped out... wound vac etc. Healed fairly quickly after that though. Might be worth a trip even though it is far away (easy for me to say... I am 35 minutes away from my surgeon). I would at least call them.
