Lots of pain meds, so excuse me if this post seems wonky.

Checked in at 5:30 a.m. Surgery started around 7:30 and I waking up around 10:30. No complications. I haven't talked to my surgeon yet, but my husband did and says he told him everything went well. I got an end ileo and they left my rectum, etc for future j-pouch surgery.

I struggled a little bit with controlling my pain around 9:00 p.m., but talked to the nurse and got things back on track. The only other issue so far has been difficulty getting the catheter to drain at times. It gets backed up and then I feel like I need to pee and a couple of times it caused ab muscle spasms which was not a good sensation.

I took a lot at stoma and it wasn't weird or scary. I am naming him Pedro. :) He isn't functioning yet and I guess they are waiting for that so I can graduate from ice chips and popsicles.

glad to hear surgery went well. welcome Pedro :) hope he starts functioning soon. try to walk as much as you can. go slow with food. wish you a smooth and speedy recovery!

Glad to hear everything went well.  My daughter had the same problem with her catheter.  I just picked the tube up and helped it to drain.  She could tell when it was getting backed up.  Keep everyone posted when you are up to it.

Great to hear that things went well. I had that issue with the catheter too (I remember thinking, why do I feel like I have to pee so bad if I have a catherter?) You just have to jiggle it some to get it to drain (or get someone else to do it), it's all about the gravity.

Glad surgery went well! Remember to get up and walk...hard at first but it does get better and the benefits are well worth it!

Sometimes when the catheter balloon is a little too inflated you can get that feeling sad but it will be gone before you know it.

So glad to hear everything went well. Walk a lot and then let yourself take lots of naps. I remember being so tired after surgery that I would fall asleep mid-sentence when talking to people. Don't worry, that catheter will be out in no time and then you won't have to worry about it. Next to go away after that will be the JP drain which is also a pain to have hanging off you.

I don't have a JP drain. I guess because he didn't build my pouch during this procedure. I was a bit relieved.

So glad it went well. I was there today for my pre-op/post-op. I said a little prayer for you. Hopefully you will be long gone by the time I get there. Take care and I hope you are back to eating pancakes soon.

Hey there....good for you and Pedro. Great to hear from you...didn't expect it this quickly though. Hopefully he will behave and start functioning soon and you can start the liquid diet and then the mushy stuff and it's nice when the different drains come out.

Hopefully you can walk some tomorrow to help things along.

Glad to hear it went well! successful 21 year old J poucher here, almost 3 months in and feeling great!

WALK WALK WALK WALK! I was FORCED to walk and it's the best thing that they could have done for me.

Thanks everyone for the continued support and encouragement. I managed to take three walks yesterday, each two laps around the nurses area. So tired but can't sleep. My nurse is getting me something to knock me out. I need it!

Oh, I forgot to mention...Pedro is on the go this morning. We.have smallish amounts of output. Yay!

So I'm now on full clear liquid and no catheter. I was quite relievedo get rid of that thing. I am still walking and doing the breathing thing a lot. I'm quite happy because I was able to do my own emptying after one lesson. Feels good to take some of that independenve back. The ostomy nurse is supposed to come tomorrow and show me bag change again. Right now they have me in a coloplast one piece drainable. We will see if we keep that or try something different.

GI soft goods today. Everything tastes good, but my appetite is teen tiny. So I just take a couple bites of the different things. Still getting lots of walks in. I slept great last night. They are calling about possibly going home tomorrow.

Glad you are getting to eat solid foods. Yippee! It took a long time for my appetite to come back after surgery. Even almost 5 months out, I still can't eat as much as I did before. Just makes me feel uncomfortably full if I eat the portion sizes I used to. I try to eat smaller, more frequent meals now.
