Amusement Park Rides with Ileostomy?

I am taking my kids to six flags in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if it would be safe for me to ride any of the roller coasters with the stoma. I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS!

Any advice would be appreciated, Tracy

I've been on all the rides at universal studios, busch gardens and disney when we went to Florida on holiday and had no problems. Most roller coaster type rides now have over the head bars and if it is a lap bar then all I do is put one hand between my stomach and the bar when they push it down and hold onto that bar there so as now to out too much pressure on the stoma as ride goes round. TBH only ones I have avoided is one in UK where it slowly turns you upside down and it had neck brace bar and very tight lap bar, not good idea to be held upside down for any length of time with 6 dispaced discs in neck, so I gave that a miss. All the rest I'm game for.

I went to Thorpe park(england) last week and i had a fantastic time,i went round and round,up and down on coasters the lot with no probs but i did check just to make sure my bag was still intact....If you like fast rides then go to Thorpe park,Stealth and SAW were totally amazing!!!!

I work at Disney and live near Universal Studios as well, so I've been roller coastering for just about the whole time I've had my ostomy. Most of them are fine; it's rare that they have a bar or whatever that is near your stoma if they're THAT crazy.

Hey Tracey,

That is great. Just do like they said and cup your hand over your stoma in case of a lap bar. I had to do that in a helicopter ride with a tight seat belt. We had to load in fast. They came around and fastened all the belts like lightning speed. Had I not gotten my hand in between my stoma and seat belt I would have been a goner. Gotta act fast and anticipate. But with all that you will have great time. My helicopter ride was only 10 mins over Rio but was fabulous.

Have a good time...the safety bars that come down are nicer but either way it shouldn't stop you from having a blast!

What about the ones that flip you upside down? You think that would cause leaks. Do any of you do waterparks? My fiancees mom has a permanent ileo. She does swim but doesn't like waterparks. She says the slides make her bag come off.

I have been on all roller coaster and theme park rides and also to water parks and discovery cove. No problems with bag at all and def no leaks or bag coming off even when I spent all day in water at discovery cove.

I love roller coasters and water parks, too, and have never had any problems. Am planning a trip to Discovery Cove this summer to swim with the dolphins. Can't wait! Have a blast at Six Flags!!
