I get so frusturated when a friend will say I'm in so much pain I haven't had a bowel movement in 3 days:/ or I'm so bloated (they barely look bloated). I know they don't know any better but it just really upsets me. Then you will have that same person tell you just to drink more water and eat more fiber. Maybe this just happens to me and yes I am speaking specifically about someone. I am just irritated. I just feel so alone with this. Thanks for letting me vent.

I feel the same way!  I get very, very, very, very tired of people telling me the same things!  They do not realize the lengths I have to go to have a bowel movement, and sometimes, like for example, taking 5 dulcolax last week, and not even getting a movement till a full 24 hours later!!!!  I am currently go through many issues as well!

26 years old as well

Diagnosed with IBS a few years agao

Diagnosed with Colon inertia last year

Had left laproscopic left hemicolectomy on Feb. 3rd to remove a kink that was discovered

Now have a stricture from surgery; going through more pain and constipation than I think I should

Going to see an actual colo-rectal surgeon on April 11th; instead of dealing with the local GI doc and regular surgeon here

It is so frusturating. People sometimes should keep their mouth shut but I know they think they are helping.

Ugh I know! The worst is when you tell people you aren't feeling well and they say, "Well you look fine!"Is that supposed to make me feel better?! Ahhh

Only because they don't really understand and just spout stuff they read in magazines. You could try what I would do which is to say in a really sarcastic voice 'oh thank you for that advice I had never thought of eating more fibre/taking laxatives/exercising' Then again I am very sarcastic anyway and so are my friends so that would be nothing new.

Alibee- I know that is so frusturating. I have heard that plenty of times from my PCP rolleyes   before all the bloating began.

Striper- That is funny, I'm usually pretty nice but I think I am getting at that point!

I liked it when I was about to have surgery and a colleague kind of desperately sent me an email: had I tried acupuncture? It can cure Crohn's..... and I thought, wow, she knows the cure for Crohn's, no one else does, including my renowned gi doctors, but this person not even remotely in a medical field does..... and actually, I had tried acupuncture, for quite a while, w/several practitioners, helped w/some back problems I used to have and menstrual cramps, but not any of my gi issues at all.

Lot's of people just can't deal w/the fact that you're suffering and it's not easy to fix.... just too scary.

My mother had a bad habit of telling me that I just needed to eat better. It used to make me so angry. I finally emailed her some info from CCFA to try to help her understand. I think if people aren't going through it, they just don't understand.

Because I am skinny I can get really fed up with people telling me either how lucky I am to be able to eat what I want and not put weight on or else when I lose weight if CD flares up they tell me I need to eat more and I need building up. Really, I never thought that by eating more I would put on weight, so obviously it is my fault for not eating even though I have no appetite when in flare. Oh, how I have to bite my tongue sometimes but am not always successful and the little sarcastic monster comes out to play.

Yes ditto... even now - after a failed reversal and apparently small bowel issues - my well-meaning mother (of 84 years) says 'cant you do anything you know like eat something or exercise...' arghh - i said 'no mum they wouldnt have taken out my whole bowel if it was that simple...' sighhhhhhhh redface

Yes, the losing weight thing, as if we are supposed to look on the bright side ...... I sometimes ask people if they'd like to try my run to the bathroom twenty times a day weight loss plan.....

I get my own back by having a desk full of sweets, cakes and treats and sit there eating them all day at work knowing full well that the rest of the office being female is on a constant diet and eating celery sticks and lettuce. Green eyed isn't the word for how envious they are then.

Yes - the comments and helpful suggestions and advice sometimes are laughable. Been there quite a few times too trying to explain to some of our family and friends. I understand the frustration.

Fortunately at our age for the most part, most of our older mature friends seem to be more in-tuned and don't "bug us" too much and have been very supportive and helpful.

(Both sets of parents are deceased so we don't have to deal with trying to keep this from them and trying to spare them the worry and concern. Parents don't want to see their children no matter what the age is suffering or dealing with an issue they would have difficulty understanding.)

Good Luck keeping your cool...lol.

i agree with Another UC Wife about the parents thing, whether they are being helpful or not the absolute hardest thing in the world is to see your child suffer, and not be able to do anything, and it's kind of like, throw anything out there, just try to help. I know it doesn't help, but really, a good parent, is only doing it out of love.

As for everyone else, just say
"well bless your heart for thinking of me"
or you can also say, "god bless your concern"

That's the nice southern way to tell someone to go do something to themselves (it's not nice so can't put it, lol)
