I'd like to write more than this...but, at home, in recovery, seeing home health care (we'll see how much they know about
ostomies...eg, if they are board certified).....
Long story short, did not make it to mayo....had surgery in orlando by local surgeon......turned out well so far.....As I told the surgeon, I am more worried about what the prednison has done than I am about the colon being removed......
The support on this site has been great, but as with all things in life, until you have a stoma, you don't really know what you are dealing with!!!
I was sent home with a hollister two piece, and it does not seem to be bothering my skin (the tape). And, no leaks (knock knock!). I changed in the hospital with the ostomy nurses help and she stated all should last at least 5 days even if i get wet in the shower (which I did last night).
Other than that, feeling light headed, tired, sore, etc.
As far as j-pouch vs. illeostomy....will I regret my decision? Well, may have doubts here and again, but I would not have looked forward to two surgeries..and, each time I hear another story about an ostomate who works, has kids, has a family, etc. it just encourages me more.....
Finally, with all the new ostomy prodcuts on the horizon (most developed by ostomy patients, I might add), I see better lives for all of us on and off of this site as time goes by...better lives as in easier living with less bags/wafers/etc.
God Bless everyone here who helps and who needs help..I will get my share of leaks/breaks with everyone else and will gladly tell the stories....
Finally, what does ground beef do to your output (as in a meated pasta sauce)?
