Blood Around Stoma

So I was emptying my bag and I noticed blood dripping down the inside of it (my bag is clear). It looks like it's coming from between the paste and the stoma. Now I know that's it normal to see some blood around the stoma when you change the bag, but I was only emptying it and there seemed to be a bit more blood than I usually see when I change. I only changed my bag yesterday so I don't want to take it off now and possibly cause more bleeding (I've been having to change the bag pretty often anyway and I only had surgery last Wednesday), but do you think that there's something wrong? Like my skin and the stoma are coming apart or there's something wrong with the sutures?

I feel like I'm being overly paranoid, but on the other hand I don't want to ignore it if it's a sign of a serious problem.

And I want to add that there isn't really any pain or any more soreness than I usually feel around that area.

The fact that it is dripping down your pouch, I'd call the doc, and get in to see them or a WOC Nurse immediately. If it's after hours, call the on call doctor.

You are still relatively early in your recovery and if there is a problem it's best to find it right away!!

If you are pretty early post op, It is most likely just bleeding from between your skin and stoma where they stitched your stoma in....

Mine bled quite a bit from that area, and if you had just changed your bag yesterday, it's even more likely that during the change you bumped your stoma a little bit and caused some bleeding. I wouldn't freak yourself out about it, just give the nurse or surgeon a call and ask them about it.

i agree with chevy, they bleed really easily. I did somethign to mine once during a change, no idea what, and by the time i was done i had so much blood in my bag!

I think you need to change the wafer and see if the edges of the wafer is possibly cutting into your stoma. Make sure you are not cutting the wafer too tight around your stoma and be sure the stoma is centered right in the center of the wafer.

I have had blood in my bag twice and both times it was because the wafer was cut too tight.

I understand the stoma bleeds very easily, but the bleeding should stop relatively fast.
