You may be on to something more than you know......
First, there is a procedure right now called the BCIR where there are no appliances except a drain tube that is inserted to "intubate" as they call it. And, yes, I just met a real life person (at an ostomy support meeting) who has a BCIR..he's had it for 10 years almost (since 2002) and he seems to be doing very well...
Also, there are two companies working on something similar to what you are talking about where there is some type of metal device in/on the body and the person only has to empty 3-4 times a day...it will be interesting to see how that works out.
Finally, as far as osotomy appliances go, we are "lucky" to have had our surgeries now...as, a few years ago, there weren't as many products or options for ostomates....and, without getting into a long post...there are several new products coming out (in the next 6-18 months) that will probably result in much longer wear times for most folks..they are pretty amazing with the flexibility they have...
