Well,
I'm writing this because of what minor things I've been through, and the very bad stuff most people on this site have been through...
I've been lucky, and mostly blessed, to live where I do (central florida) in that the highest concentration of WOCN's in the country is here.
And, for the past 3-4 weeks, I've seen a WOCN at a wound care center...each time I went, she removed old pouch, cleaned skin, applied medication for granulomas, and put on new pouch...each time I observed what she did and asked "why?" about everything...
she was amazed when I said I can go seven days....she said it was hard to imagine because in her words "..an illeostomy is the 'cadillac' of ostomies.." That is, it's the hardest to take care of because of the digestive juices..
Also, she told me stories about people who have accidents (e.g., car crashes) and end up with "not so good' stomas that are in "not so good locations" that they have to spend weeks working with the person to find an appliance and methods to keep the seal....
So, it bothers me that this care isn't available to everyone on this site....and, I wish I would have gone to this wound care center after surgery (and had the surgery at it's supporting hospital..as, I had a surgery several blocks up the street at another hospital..)...just because my worries would have been less, and I could have gotten things together sooner...and, I wish this was available to everyone on this site!!!
Also, as I brush and floss my teeth daily, I still have to go see the dentist twice a year...so, I would like to see everyone be able to go to a similar wound care center (at least once a year) to get their stoma looked at, and the skin, and have the WOCN say everything is okay.....wouldn't that be a help?!
Well, that's my 2 cents....
I am 2.5 months (i think) past surgery....back at work (can't believe it's my third week part time..working up to fulltime)....I'm off the prednisone..can't believe that! No medicine in the morning..but, my joints ache, and my muscles ache....not sure how long that will last...
God Bless all on this forum!
