so my ostimie bag and stoma have been working ok this will be starting week 3 from sugery i still have pain but it tollerable now . i was ecited to go shoping and think i over did  it :/ so back to some pain medicine:/ (wich i didt take for 2 days) i feel in control when i dont need the medicine but i know my body needs it now :( .... i have been having a lot of NOISE from when i poop through my bag just hoping that wont happen at school because iam going to a new part of my school. its smaller and its to help kids graduate early or on time if there behind some. so theres kids there that ive seen before and some that i dont know so its like 1st day of school all over again but being by myself in a way.

P.S found out 2 days ago that i have been accepted to ivytech but then again who doesnt lol :D

Wow, that's early to be going back to school. Remember that your health comes first, and if it's too tiring or painful, you need more time off. If you overdo it now, you could make the healing take longer. So, pay attention to how you feel and think about what you'd advise your best friend if the roles were reversed.

It's pretty stressful to go to a new school, even when you are perfectly healthy.....

If you put your hand over the bag, you can damp down some of the noise. You might want to think of some lines you're going to say in advance if it makes noise and people notice, although hopefully they won't notice .... the noises probably sound like noises other people make when they're hungry -- so you don't have to tell others everything.

Make up an emergency kit to carry with you -- two or three extra pouches, whatever products you use, paper towels or a wet washcloth in a ziplock bag (or special wipes -- I like the safe and simple peristoma wipes), and extra underwear and pants/skirt, as well as a big bag for your dirty clothes if you need it. I had one accident in public, but I've been glad to be prepared at other times even though I didn't need stuff..... it's just early on and you want to be sure.

Jackie, glad to hear you are doing so well. Do you have a loop or end illeostomy? My end ileo was so loud. I wasn't quite prepared for that. It was mainly the sound of gas passing through. If I knew I was going to be somewhere quiet I would hold off on soft drinks and other carbonated beverages because that's what mainly did it for me. Sometimes I would sit my large purse on my lap - that would pretty much muffle out the noise. When I got the loop I only heard the faintest of sounds a handful of times

Good for you getting back to your life. Do you live in Indiana? I didn't go there but Ivy Tech has come a long way :)

yes i do live in indiana and cant wait to get out !!!!! my plan is to eventually live in germany for a while and then hawaii :D

it seems early to me too, and i hope you're not over doing it at this stage.. if you feel it's too much, take another couple weeks off. i'm starting school tomorrow too :) good luck to both of us!

:'( .... didnt get through the whole day of school. phisically my body was draging me to the front desk to say im overwhelmed and in pain but my mind was like FINISH FINISH FINSH. but my body won! i had to go home early only got through 2 1/2 classes. but iam going to do half a days for 1 week and then i have to do whole days they said ... i think i started school back up to quick but was still happy i tried.

Glad you listened to your body. What do you mean they say you have to do full days next week? That's ridiculous.... if you're too sick to go, you're too sick.... you really can't just decide or command, oh by next week I'll be up for full days.... does not work that way.

hey Jackie, so sorry it was a rough day for you :( but we did think it was too early for you.. usually a surgery like this is at least 6 weeks recovery at home! im sure your dr can give you a letter for them at school so they understand what you had is a major surgery!! no need to rush your self or let them stress you, you MUST take as much time as you need.

thanks for asking about me. i had a great time going to school again :) it was truly fun and wonderful. (but i'm more than a year post op). i'm studying dental assistant. i was nervous about what if i must empty the bag and they talk about something important that i don't want to miss etc, but we had enough breaks, so that was good :) and i did just fine.

the way i feel about it, even if my bag fills more than should and it shows, i don't care at all and don't mind ppl knowing. i don't go and tell them, but i won't be nervous ALL THE TIME about emptying it on time before it shows. course i will do my best when i can, but won't stress if it shows a bit and ppl know.

i hope you get better and stronger as soon as possible Jackie!! and remember, take as much time as you need!!!!! let us know how things go.

sadly as i speak things are getting worse the doctors say i shouldnt have a problem at school im getting half days only for a week this is my 3rd week out of the hospital soooooooo??!!! i don't know i wish my mom understood but she said shes just gonna push me she says this should be the easy [art and to me its the hardest :/

oh i'm so sorry Jackie.. that must be so stressful for you :( i don't understand how they can rush you after a surgery like this... can you explain to the surgeon how hard it is for you still? it's not just the physical recovery, which you havn't over came yet and is not simple on it's own, it's also coping with the bag and all that comes along with it. i certainly think you need more time, esp if you say you do. they should respect it if you say you're not ready yet. i hope they can understand. i hope things work out soon! so sorry to hear this.
