Dreamer,
Get this checked. If peristomal hernia's get big enough they can cause obstruction.
I have an ileostomy 4 years now. Mine is permanent. By the end of the day I feel like I am carting around a baseball behind my stoma. There is no hernia visible nor by exam per many docs. No actual pain either. my PT thinks mine is scarring within the muscle around the stoma. Thankfully it is working OK, as long as I eat gushy foods.
I wish you luck. I live in fear of getting a peristomal hernia and am very careful about lifting, bending, etc. I have gained weight as a result. so I gotta move more. This ostomy was needed to save my life due to permanent injury of colon and rectum in a GYN surgery. Am lucky to be alive, but all this ostomy stuff is not easy.
Good luck. Rosemary
