  Is it really true that after having colostmy that you are pretty much pain free. I have been in pain almost constantly for the last 15 years.

I would say it depends on why you got it. When I had my colectomy and got my ileostomy, I was pain free once I recovered from surgery, etc. I had UC so my disease was confined to my colon. Once they took that bad boy out, my illness was over. Right now I'm mostly pain free. I have a little tenderness down in my left abdomen from yesterday's obstruction adventure, and I'm still healing where they closed my ostomy site, but that's it.

Now, if the colectomy was related to Crohn's or something, then it would be possible to have disease involvement in other areas and still experience pain. It really depends on why/how you ended up with surgery.

Why did you have the surgery, starlight? I think you mentioned, sorry I forgot (you can do a signature in the profile page if you feel like it, as some of us have; it's so easy to get people's histories mixed up here).

I did not have tremendous pain before surgery. My main symptoms were diarrhea, urgency, and fatigue, although I had some cramping and was always rumbling. I felt a difference right after surgery, as my problems were in the colon, and my colon was gone.

Of course there was pain from the surgery, but that was different.

I had the ileostomy becaus i have crohns, i went in to have some intestine removed for the fourth time but from what i understand i was a mess and all meds stopped working. i'm still in cicu but they are talking about moving me to icu so i guess there not as worried about my heart just having a hard time finding the right combo o antibiotics, been on thm for so many years my body doesn't respond to most. other then that i'm still in pain but not like last week just wish they could get my bp up so i can take my anxity meds. family and freinds are an hour and a half away so it's kind o hard. but this hospital is awesome. thanks Rose
