Mucous question (it's green)

I had my step two OP on Dec. 16th, and there was lot of beige mucous every day, then it started to decrease, to once a day, or one every two days. Thing is, it is now a definite lime-green in color. Someone on the site once wrote that oyu don't need to worry about mucous -- unless it's got lots and lots of blood in it or unless it is green. Well, it's green, and I really don't know what that means. I have an appoint at the clinic for my barium contrast xrays on Wednesday, so I will probabl have to wait until then to get medical attention if it could be something alarming. Any experience here?

Yikes! could green mean infection? ANy pain? Hope all is OK. Rosemary

I've read on the net tht it could mean infection, but it could also mean no infection, No pain. It isn't green every day, and I am not having mucus every day. I wouldn't have even thought it was a problem if I hadn't read something about it here.

If you aren't having other symptoms like pain or fever, I wouldn't worry right now but definitely ask about it when you go in on Wednesday. If you start having pain, fever, naseau or anything like that, definitely call for advice.

I hadn't really noticed before until I read your posts.. but mine is also green sometimes. You'd assume green mucous (like in a chest or sinus infection) is a sign of infection.. but I guess not always and it may not be anything to worry about. I certainly don't have any other worrying symptoms.

Mine also has small amounts of blood sometimes. I pass mucous every other day and sometimes with spasmy pain. Unlike you I dont' have a J pouch, but just some of my colon which is diverted... am coming to the conclusion it will have to come out one day.

Let me know what your doc says. Good luck with your appointment and tests.

Ironmum, it's allowed to have small amounts of blood. The mucous itself is also normal and a sign of healthy tissue - it's the rectum.

I don't have any other signs of an infection, I feel fine, mor or less, except for a bit of sore throat and ear aches because it's become so horribly cold here that we can never completely turn the heating off.

I never thought I'd be writing emails about green boogies! If I'd know when I was about 7, I'd have been thrilled. I can't help remembering this BBC production I once saw, "Fungus the Bogeyman" about an underground population of green bogey people who value total disgustingness, sliminess and dirtiness, and they call us humans "drycleaners."
