Happily wild for pleasant diversion and sharing of good things is a positive thing, but I worry that is this real or is this just entertainment for us? Have to admit would ANYONE regardless of age be able to do all this the week they had all these surgeries? If so, Jackie, who is your doc? He must be super. Sorry, but need to be sure we keep this forum on track and serious for those of us in need. Am I the only one in doubt? If all true, then good for you Jackie. I don't feel it's fake. She did post she had those obstructions etc. She only had the takedown, I would assume it's not a big surgery. From what I've read, it's a 30 min surgery.

Does feel pretty awkward.

Well I started the thread tongue in cheek, because I do think Jackie wants to shock us all.

I think it's real though, she has a blog with pictures.

All I know is I am amazed at young people and how they handle life changing medical situations, they seem to usually land on their feet.

But I do think we need to remain a serious outlet to those that are struggling, need advice or a place to vent.

Didn't mean to start trouble, just wanted to comment on rather shocking posts that were IMHO begging for replies!

Rosemary don't do that. I totally agree with you if it's any consolation. Posted last night on this thread then deleted it as felt bad for Jackie and agree with Blue and R4P that this thread feels all wrong.. so this is the only comment I'm going to make.

After my takedown I spent a week in hospital with an ileus and was ready to put a gun to my head let alone go out partying. Of course Jackie is free to post whatever she likes and good for her if she can hack it, but seriously not many of us could do what she's doing, nor should we. I really hope she doesn't come undone.

Rosemary please stay.

Thanks, Blue and Marsky, I will think it over. Would miss you all terribly. As you know I almost lost my own life and had to get it saved with the ileo, this summer my mother died, my cat (all I now have) has developed acute pancreatitis. So yes, admittedly, there were some personal triggers of mine. Lizzie still on hold, so worried for her. Kyle's pace maker is not working but hopefully will at some point in time.

The whole sex, dance, and competition amongst the youngsters who WILL crash, or at least get a hernia, just seemed so far from the serious issues we have successfully addressed for the past 6 years at least just seemed so out of nowhere. How do you block people on these forums? I did not know that was possible. PLUS it is a public forum so anyone can post anything (I guess.)

Are there rules on forums such as stick to topics? Some post Jackie made was something about not being good about condoms. (unprotected sex is DANGEROUS! This forum is about SAVING LIVES not destroying them.) I mean what she does with her life is HER business, but where does that belong in an ostomy site?

Where's Peter and who are the moderators? They obviously can't read every post nor can they be responsible for all of them, that would be a 24/7 job. Are there rules on appropriateness of forum etiquette?

I think the MAJORITY of hurt feelings amongst the long time posters are quickly cleared up and are simply misunderstandings or too much info not really anything bizaare. But this new stuff is really too weird! If we could go back to the business I think we were all tending to, I will stick around and try and help and continue to get help. Oh, by the way, I FINALLY found someone to help with a food plan. SO if we get back on track that is something of value I can share. Let me know what we can do to get back on track. This is a public forum with different topics/threads.

She is on the ostomy forum because she has the Jpouch, she just happens to talk about her life in relation to her J pouch. Obviously, there is no need for you to provide or to get help from HER topic.

However, there are topics which your knowledge can be essential.

The topics in this section are not intertwined. I mean, I saw a random topic of a person that shat herself in the middle of the night and wasn't sure if she should laugh or cry. Jackie talks about her life in general, and then there's someone else talks about the diet in relation to his/her surgery. Different topics

Basically you filter through and add your input to what you deem important in your eyes.

You cannot control what people post and there is just a limited set of rules you can apply before it becomes too strict.

And last, it's probably also a generation gap.

Rosemary...there are too many of you that are quite needed and considered valuable. So we need to hang in there for those constantly coming here for advice or whatever they are seeking as well as for us regulars. I am by no means an expert but having witnessed first hand and living with and helping my husband before, during and after his ordeal I hope from time to time I can also lend a hand to someone.

I am & have reserved personal opinions on some of these postings of late. As I said I am readily admitting to a "generational gap" type thing and feel TMI is oftentimes the case. I have also wondered to myself if some of this is to "shock" or have fun with some of us that may come across as prudish or too proper. And then again as someone said...younger people express themselves differently and are certainly less inhibited.

Yes there is freedom of speech to a certain extent. However, depending on the age of the poster some of us can pose a question, relate personal experiences or answer a question more delicately than others. I definitely try not to be judgmental as others may need to cut me some slack if my responses are not quite up to their interpretations.

So I suppose if any one of us sees a topic or whatever they wish to steer clear from we need to do just that. But there is too much good and too many good people here trying to help others and be helped by others so please stick around.

You're right UC, I can just steer clear of the topics that seem unnerving. I just worry for this girl, but I'm not her mom. Just hope she takes care of herself. What I learned at 50 (through my gut injury that lead to the needed ostomy) is if you don't take care of yourself nobody else is going to. Very hard lesson to learn. Hope she takes care. Thanks, RJ

I worry too, Rosemary, and I've conveyed those worries directly, as have you. All we can do.

I had something wonderful happen a few weeks ago -- got an email from one of my students who is a senior in college. I've had him in several classes, starting his first year. Bright, nice kid who could do great, but often didn't do his work. I was on him about it many times, but nothing I said seemed to help; I tried many things and it was frustrating. Well, turns out that a bit ago , while I was out on medical leave, he decided he wants to be a good student; he got all A's and B's last semester, and he wrote me to thank me for believing in him when he didn't believe in himself. Kind of made my week..... but totally unexpected. He also told me about some very intense things that had been going on in his family and how they impacted his work. You just never know all of what's going on or what is actually being heard..... I think it's like throwing seeds -- some take, some don't, and you can't predict....
