Blue,
Thanks for your very comprehensive tips. Yeah I can imagine the Duoderm working, then after too long, becoming counterproductive if you didn't change in 3 or 4 days.
A question on the eakin and paste combo. You put the eakin on you so it comes around the stoma, then you put the paste on the sticky side of the wafer and then put the wafer on so that the wafer with paste hooks onto the eakin which is already on you, then you push the whole thing onto you and put on the bag right? So there is like this little mountain around your stoma so NO POOP SHALL PASS THIS POINT
(I know what you mean about
experimenting with samples when you already have a system. Same thing happened with me with the coloplast barrier rings, not only did they not turtle neck but on me they hardly stuck and poop got under them bad scene.)
Pilot and Colitis,
thanks. you were right, the paste did not bother my stoma, it just sort of turtlenecked up then fell off. So tomorrow I will check and see how I did with the flat convatec that I love so much and the paste and the stomahesive burn powder and the cavillon prep (I did the "crusting" method: powder, prep, powder, prep, then the paste, wafer, and bag.
I could not believe my eyes at my last change when the convex hollister and the paste failed me burn protection wise as that had worked so well the previous time. PLUS I got this skin irritation in only one place at the very edge of where the wafer tape on the hollister ended. That quieted with some cortizone ointment I put on as the wafer tape on the convatec flat does not come out as far on my skin as the hollister does.
This is sooooo frustrating as when my stoma was new, and even after I had regained 20 of the lbs I needed to, putting me at 120 lbs, all I had to do was use an eakin slim around the stoma, the flat convatec stomahesive wafer, and the clear bag and I could actually go for 12 days and have not a mark on my skin! Is that something or what?
Sure have good incentive to lose weight!
What do people do who need permanent ileostomies such as me whose skin cannot tolerate ANY of these products or get sensitive to them over time, staggers the imagination! Hoping I don't find out. LOL!
