Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who was commenting on the Eakin seal and it's "healing properties". I was very heistant to use it b/c I had also read that it is REALLY sticky and doesn't like to come off until it has been on for 48 hours - I am changing sometimes 4x/day now b/c of a draining abcess conveniently located just below my stoma. ANYWAY, last night on change number 4 I threw caution to the wind and just tried it - how bad could it hurt coming off in 12hours at my appt? WELL - it didnt' hurt coming off AND of my 3 little pinprick like spots under the stoma that had been producing an overflow of drainage from the abcess had totally healed over and were closed. Additionally a very small "burn" was also totally better!! My nurse giggled a little b/c I had made the crust, put the eakin on, then added a hollister barrier ring and then my pouch. She said it was like a suit of armor on my Stella LOL! I just like to be safe and not have any poo leaks - I'm alright with having to change the pouch b/c of the abcess but I don't wanna be wallowing in poo!
I do get to have the fun experience of irrigating my abcess now everytime I change my pouch/change the packing on the abcess. Well, I am not irrigating, my husband is :) Also, my nurse suggested to my surgeon to try this powder/spray on my hiney wound so instead of packing it I now have this powder that contains silver that we are going to try for the week and see what kind of progress is makes or doesn't make. May have to go back to the packing next week. The doc would really like for me to put the woundvac back on but I REALLY don't want to - HATE that thing!
I also gained 4 more pounds!! That's 3 weeks in a row I've had a 4lb weight gain. I joked with my doc that if I kept packing on the pounds I'd be back at the clinic but in the next hallway getting a consult for gastric bypass.
