Still changing bags too much

I am on my third change in 24 hours. It does not seem to be getting any better. I think this has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have two areas where the skin is bleeding. Ostomy nurses have given up.
After cleaningand drying, Duoderm over bleeding areas, nystatin on rash, barrier spray every where, blow dry, Coloplast adhesive paste around stoma and crease, place bag firmly on, and finally encourage adhesive with a heating pad.I wear a belt 24/7.
Hollister bags stay on 20-24 hours but skin damage is increased. Coloplast bags stay on 6- 20 hours but skin damage is not increased.
I guess I'll have to stay with the Coloplast, just not go anywhere and wear only black clothing.
Had a job interview today. Burning and bleeding were bad. Made it through the interview but just barely. Find myself fighting despair almost all of the time.
Meeting with surgeon tomorrow to schedule take down. I cannot wait to be rid of this ileo.

Subzero, brava for going to the job interview. Other people would have chiecked out. I really hope you get the job if it is what you want. I went to my first job interview for the job I (still) have maxed out on 60 mgs of prenisone that made me talk too much, too fast, and I trembled like a leaf. They invited me back, and here I am, one year later, stressed beyond my wildest dreams.

The surgeon had a completely different approach from the ostomy nurses. He prescribed quadrupling the amount of loperamide, and adding psyllium husk and cholestyramine to my daily medicines. The cholestyramine binds the acids into waste solids so the acids cannot eat through the seals and skin. He believes the thicker output has a harder time being able to leak through everything.
I hope this finally works!!!!

The interviewer is one of my role models. She is one of the nation's top civil rights attorneys. She told me I was too smart for the job so I doubt I will be hired. She wants me to go to law school and offered to write me a reference. It is a tempting idea.There is very little age prejudice in that profession. Something to think about!

Yes if output is too thick it will pancake...happened to hubby once.

I hope this hurries up and gets over with for you and you can have your takedown surgery and be rid of this. Sorry you are not able to at least find something that works and cooperates for the short term while you need it.

I can't believe the ostomy nurses "gave up".... they should be able to help get this under control for you. Sorry.

The surgeon's approach sounds promising, hope it works. Less acidic output sounds like it'd help a lot.

It is day 2 of the increased loperamide and adding the cholestyramine. I have changed the bag daily to be sure the bleeding and blistering are not getting worse. There is no new blistering and the bleeding areas are almost healed. I have to empty the bag more often because the thicker output is heavy. I am cautiously hopeful!

That's very good news. Every crisis has a resolution. Emptying more often is not the biggest compromise. Thicker output means losing less water, much better for you. Just be careful that it doesn't pancake when it gets too thick.
