It all takes about 1/3 to 1/2 the time it took to wipe my bottom in my "coloned" days. One of the huge bennies of an ostomy. You get out of the bathroom way faster then if you had a colon, even if it wasn't diseases with UC.
For some people maybe, but not for me! When my colon was healthy, I was always SUPER quick in the bathroom: poop, wipe, and done in under thirty seconds. (But I was crazy regular when I was in remission - my gut ran like clockwork: 3x a day, usually about
1 hour after meals.) Even most of the time I had UC it was pretty close to that quick, except when I was REALLY sick and I would just sit on the toilet in pain for like fifteen minutes passing mostly blood.
Now compared to that it takes me forever to empty and clean out the tail of the bag, but probably because I still use the one with the clip and am OCD about
cleaning the inside of the tail (below the clip) really well so it doesn't smell or get on anything. I use ddd45's strategy with the toilet paper mostly, but it takes me more like four or five wads to get all the output from the inside of the tail, and even then using multiple areas on each TP wad to get more than one swipe out of each... so to get it all the way clean my TP-wrapped finger goes in the tail to swipe at least like eight times... seems like it takes forever. If I use TP for the first swipe and then a baby wipe after that, I can get it done a lot faster.
If this ostomy was a permanent arrangement, I would definitely experiment more with the other types of supplies out there to find one that would get me in and out of the bathroom faster.
