Antipersperant behind wafer

Question.Has anyone used a antipersperant to prevent sweating between your skin and the wafer? I am a runner and this will be my first summer running with my ostomy. If you have used one does it work? what do you use? I put on a Nu Hope hernia belt and a tube top over that while wearing my appliance sideways.So far this works great but on a humid hot day Iintend to add a sure seal. If i didn't sweat direcly behind my wafer im sure it would be safer and surely last longer (I now get 4 days before a change).Thanks

I have never heard of anyone using deodorants under the wafer, I personally would think it would compromise the adhesive ability of the wafer. So I wouldn't advise you do that, it could also irritate your skin and end up with all sorts of problems. You can use specific odor drops made especially for your bag from your supplier. I often spray some perfume on my stomache near the pouch just to make me feel better about any possible odors. Just be very careful about what you spray under the wafer and near your stoma. Anything like that under your wafer will cause a problem with the adhesion to your skin.

I am also having my first summer with my ostomy, and do worry about the heat. The only thing I can think to suggest is using a barrier wipe or spray. Like the no-sting ones from 3M. That might help, but I'm not sure.

I have never heard of deodorants under the wafer. Personally, I get 7/8 days wear time with my Eakin and ostomy belt and doesn't matter whether winter/summer. I'm also active in the summer...biking, hiking, running, at beach/pool, extensive gardening.

Thanks for your comments.I may try it on one corner and see what happens. I do use a barrier wipe and an adapt ring.so far so good ,but i worry about my running in the heat.

I'll keep you posted on my end too. I'm starting outdoor soccer for the summer, and we are running around for 90 min. I'll let you know if I have any issues.

I played indoor in the spring a bit, and I didn't do anything differently other than wear a guard to protect the stoma during play.

There is another thread talking about this (ileostomy and summer... ).. some people find it does work well.

Someone mentioned a product in the UK by Pelican which is meant as a barrier cream and has antiperspirant in it http://www.pelicanhealthcare.co.uk/ultra_barrier_cream

Am also a runner, but don't do anything differently with my bag. Swimming doesn't do much for my wafer, but just need to change more often.

Haven't noticed heat rash or any problems so far though, so maybe I'm just lucky.

It has been 5 years for me now, but when I had my ostomies, I used a baby bib to reduce the sweat and irritation I got from the bag and wafer. It was awesome, also, on the off chance of leaking, it was a lifesaver as well.
