Donna,
I'm sorry he's having so many leaks and that the supply company keeps messing up your order!
For some reason, my stoma was much more active and the output was very liquidy in the beginning. Over time, the output thickens and slows down. Others on here have posted the same thing, so what he's experiencing is normal and will soon pass. Leaks are also normal in the beginning, and that will not happen once he gets the right wafer for him.
Are you shaving the hair off of his stomach, so the wafer can stick to his skin? Try putting the wafer on dry skin with no skin prep or any powders. That stuff makes my wafer not stick.
It might help for him to eat a BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) along with Metamucil (fiber) and Imodium to help thicken and slow down the output. Baked chicken and mashed potatoes are good thickening foods, too.
The wafer I highly recommend is the Coloplast Assura Extended Wear #2833 with matching cloth covered velcro closure pouch #13986. I've been using that product for 6 years with a little bit of Stomahesive paste around the hole, and I get one week's wear time with no leaks, and that's with daily showers, exercise, and swimming in the pool! The wafer has a built-in skin barrier, so I just put it on dry skin, and it sticks really, really well.
I also purchase my products from Edgepark, and they have never made a mistake. In a pinch, you can purchase supplies on eBay. Their prices are much lower than the local medical supply store. I also use Hollister M9 drops for odor. Just have your hubby put a few drops in the pouch after each empty, and there's no odor!
Praying that things improve and you get the right shipment of supplies soon!
Cecilia
