Hi,
So far so good since the stoma revision June 4. I have a few questions.
This was done local to the stoma with 3 more inches of bowel pulled out and new stoma made.
Was given Toridol (opiad strength tylenol) in nose spray form, but took me and my friend a few days to catch up with it as the pharmacy had to order it. So really needed it first 4 days after surgery. Used it about twice then went onto Plain Tylenol. As the Toridol really knocks you out. BUT I have some toridol left and used a dose tonight as some pain was creeping in. Is it better to use the Toridol for 4 straight days then get onto the tylenol, or because so long has gone by should I just use the regular tylenol? Not in any horrific pain, but just wondering best to hit the pain hard and get it gone, or to go on lighter plain tylenol and let the pain go on a bit longer (tolerable level).
Second question. The post op one piece coloplast bag they gave me gave me a bad case of dermatitis so I then switched back to the clear one piece active life style see through post op one that did not bother my skin but has this clip that is nasty to deal with and a plain tail closure that needs to be folded back and has no built in strengtheners so it is just the floppy tail piece. Really hard to clean. To get around all this I just ordered a larger opening flange and bag hold of the stomahesive appliance I had been used to. BUT The new stoma went so active the VNA nurse and I were chasing poop everywhere. SO what I forgot to do was to put the skin barrier on a wider part of my skin to account for the wider adhesive. Without the wider spread of skin barrrier, this is now bothering my skin where I did not put the barrier.
So should I change back to what? And should I wait til Monday when the VNA comes again or should I deal with it tomorrow. I had tø have this and am so thankful I found a doc to help me but these skin issues I need to deal with. Votes are welcomed. I did put a test patch of the flange that bothered me on the other side of my stomach and there is no issue there. Cannot figure that out, but what the heck?
