hello louise
wow i totally forgot about your admission. I am sorry you are exposed to such 'horror' stories. Just cause you read it here does not mean it will happen to you. I had no problems first time around with my stoma at all! I am having problems as it is reoperative on my bowel - this was the third time i have been opened up. it is improving though very slowly. It is not the norm to have problems.
you know i would go with a surgeon who has tons of experience in performing ileostomy surgery and has those colerectal qualifications. It is very important as far as i am aware that he has that experience. I am sorry to have to say that but i would not let anyone touch me who had not done it before, it is a specialised operation.
what prof in the UK suggested the loop?
Have you had many ops on your small bowel - if so where?
I decided to have a loop not an end - and was advised so - not that i am going to be reversed or anything. it is an easier surgery seeing as i am already joined up. plus waste will not bypass the old scar tissue from previous surgery.
Seems like you need to get the pros and cons of loop v end and lap v open from your surgeon asap. I was given no choice in the matter regarding open - the team i am under have years in excess of over a decade of experience especially in matters to do with CI, which they do research on.
louise take care. hope you get peace of mind with your surgeon.
