Effects of a Slurpee.... :)

Ok, so we have been told that if hubby has a craving we should let him eat it. Within reason of course. Well, he wanted a slurpee. So, he just sat here and drank a large coca cola slurpee.

Not 15 minutes after he started drinking it, his pouch started filling up with liquid and you can tell its the slurpee. I don't understand this. How is it even possible to go through him that fast? Doesn't stuff stay in your stomach a while before going to the small intestine? We just emptied his pouch like 4 times in the last hour from the slurpee.

He is doing really well and is starting to eat more and his output does get thicker when he eats pretzels, bananas, starches etc... But it always goes back and forth to watery. He is also taking immodium. He has an appointment with his surgeon on tuesday so I will make sure we talk about his output.

Once he has his take down, will we still have issues like this with watery stool?

Hi Amethyst. it's impossible to predict how it's going to be after take-down but I wouldn't expect anything resembling normal bm's. Mine was watery and chaotic the first weeks, andI didn't have much control. I started taking immodium a week after I got home and that thickened things up and reduced my chances for accidents. I went back to work 3 weeks after take-down, involving over an hour of traveling each way, and I knew where to find a toilet fast from each station. I often got off the train twice on the way there and on the way home. It all got easier as things became less frequent. I started off with 18 times a day.
I think for most people it's watery right after take-down. The development from there is gradual but continual. I'm 7 months post- take-down and have soft-firm stools and I am down to 4-6 per day and maybe one at night, two if I ate a lot. I also take psyllium husk, a tablespoon with yoghurt in the morning, and sometimes again in the late afternoon or evening. That makes a good, gel-like stool that is easy to pass.
Food will stay in your stomache a while, but the slurpy melts and goes through like water. I have had really good luck with frozen yoghurt and ice cream, no effects at all. The only thing that makes my life difficult is butter and cream, causes an uncontrollable, liquid diarhea (like melted butter) so I just don't eat them at all. Things will keep changing for the better over the next months for me, and so you need patience to get through the first year. Things become manageable after4-5-6 months though.

It's a good thing he didn't have a cherry Slurpee or you might have thought he was bleeding!

LOL!  Yea... he had some ketchup one of the first days I brought him home and we sort of paniced for a few minutes when we saw the ketchup coming out... but realized what it was. :)

Things are back to "normal" now and we're not emptying the pouch every 30 minutes haha.  Just seems like the more liquids he drinks the more liquidy his output is. 

But, I did get him to drink an ensure vanilla shake this morning and his vitals seemed a bit better today.  He's doing really great.  The abscesses in his tummy are almost gone... he is really hoping they will remove his drains this coming week.
