huge stent tube in my sto

I have for 48 hours (if I live) a stent tube into my stoma that went down after only a week. I am terrified. The doc checked the stoma and it was stenosing already. So to avert surgery and relieve me she put in thi stenting tube that stays in for 48 hours to hopefully prevent further stenosis. A lot of. Fluid came out of my stoma that was backed up in me. So far it does not hurt but what is the long term with nutrition and so on? She said I could eat but I don't dare. R

Rosemary.. I can totally understand your fears. After everything you've been through it's no surprise you're petrified. Does she know why it's stenosing again so soon???

Am glad you have some temporary relief at least.. do try to eat something soft/liquidy just to get some nourishment in.

My thoughts and prayer are always with you.. hang in there girl. You'll see this through.

Rosemary, your doctor has a plan to find out why your stomas keep stenosing. It is unusual and you are going through hell. I think she will figure things out thought, and then the cause of the stenosis will have to be treated. You have been on quite a journey, one you did not diserve or need. I don't know what to say to you to keep you from having morbid thoughts. While I can easily imagine how frightened you feel, I wish you bravery just a little longer until they figured out what is going on. There is a reason and they will have to find it.

I know. Now I am having massive output of digestive juices. So far no pain. Ostomy nurse said whatever you do eat real food and drink or you will dehydrate. The woman knows where of she speaks. It is like a runaway train and I am having to empty my pouch about every 10 mins. I just called over to see just how thick I can get this effluent as it does have to fit thru the bag but I need to get it thick enough so I don't lose all my bodily fluids.


I did do another consult by faxand they said I could not have any surgey for a year I am so inflammed. The stoma nurse it is possible that this particular stenosis may be from inflammation as I had to have it done so close to the other one only 2 months out.

Yeah I think this doc is thinking on it. When she said real food I was like thinking what, but if it stays thi runny the output that is, I may have to have a piece of toast or something.

Ok I had to resort to real food as the liquidy output got massive and I had to slow it. No immodium at this point.

So earlier today, I had 5 crackers, one spoon of mac and cheese, one white toast.

More clear output. Very little pee. Trying to sip water. Still massive output.

So tonight I had a jar of babyfood banana, a toast, and a bite of egg.

So it slowed the output but it is still clear yellow. I called and a resident called back. I said with all I ate today shouldN't we be seeing some kind of formed effluent?

There are some flakes in the effluent but for all I ate today, I think we should be seeing dark brown effluent and some sort of formed output. I feel bloaty but do anyway. I want to go for a walk and go to bed but I might dehydrate in the night. An iv would mean a picc line again and we can only use ine of my arms and it is too soon. I have no idea what to do.

Have any of you ever had an ileostomy stoma tube in you?

Rosemary just remember how much you have been through so far you are a fighter and a survivor , I know how scared you must be but the doctor is on your side and actively doing something you will get through this you inspire me with your strength and will to get well I'm. Sure youwill have a answer soon this is just another battle in the warto get better my thoughts are with you lucky

Still praying for you Rosemary...this is just horrible.  Try to stay strong.  I hope your doctor can remedy this real soon.

hey rosemary, Sounds like your doc is really taking good care of you. I think we are all very happy to hear that. I had a tube put in my very first stoma after a massive blockage... just 24hours after I was released from the hospital. Funniest thing about it, was when I was in the ER, the docs came in to put the tube into the stoma (of course just the idea grossed me out, but I was in so much pain and drugged up.. that it didn't matter). Well anyways.. they stuck it in and the darn stoma sprayed EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere. On both docs, on the 3 nurses, on the entire ER room I was in, on all the equipment. Funny as anything. Anways, I got re-admitted to the hospital and they left the tube in for several days, they just kept manipulating it. They told me it was because everything was so swollen up from surgery.

long story.. whatever they did worked. I got out of there in about five days and didn't have any further problems at all with that particular ileostomy.

As far as your nutrition, seems like maybe you should eat per your doctor's recommendation. Try your best to not worry about what is coming out and when. And of course you know, walking and moving are good.

Lastly, if you are concerned about your nutritional status, ask your doctors. I trust they are checking your bloodwork, but just discuss it with them. You can always get TPN through a picc line. They probably want to avoid that, because they really want your system to learn how to eat. But you might want to have that conversation with them, just so you feel more comfortable.

We are all hoping things get better for you rosemary. hang in there.. you are one tough lady!!!

So the tube cured your stoma blockage. Was yours a food blockage or a scar tissue blockage? Mine is scar tissue. Yesterday I had a ton of diarrhea after they put the tube in as all my digestive juices were backed up. F lEt a lot better but then diarrhea kept coming and coming. So they said eat thickening things so you don't dehydrate. I did then the thick poo could not come out of the tube and the stoma. So I had to walk two hours and drink grape juice finally got all the crap out. Today was sore and went back on liquid shakes I just could not go thru that again. I hope this stoma does not stricture more. The tube is suppposed to slow the stricturing of it to prevent that. We shall see. RJ
