Ha ha ha. Well didn't we have a thread once, about further uses of all our stoma provisions? I never tried stoma powder on my face, but who knows, it may do the trick for pimples...
(Should I seriously consider that?)
Now I understand why you're having a hard time with it, because it's under the stoma, a difficult place to get at. So I would really recommend doing it lying down and even using a mirror. The trick really is to get a thick amount of powder on a very small point of skin only, without it getting on the rest of your skin where the flange needs to stick. If you do this on your back, then you will also be able to see powder crumbs falling lower down and wipe them off, without more falling down, before putting on a new bag.
Now I'm remembering something - I got my first powder from the nurse at the rehab place where I suffered out three weeks after the colectomy. She gave it to me inside a big fat plastic syringe, so that I could push the plunger thingie in very small movements and just get a little blip of powder exactly where I needed it. Later on I had a small plastic bottle of powder and used a q-tip. Once more, I think the trick is to get a thick amount of powder onto one isolated spot, and nowhere else.
