Not able to have BM year after Rectal Prolapse Surgey, 6" of Colon Removed, Sudden Lower Back P

Hi, Last year I had my Pelvic Floor Collapse along with Rectal Prolapse. I had a surgery to fix both, including taking six inches of my colon out and fixing the Rectal Prolapse, mesh sling to hold up my bladder, and a Hysterectomy.

Everything has been going great until recently. I am now unable to have a bowel movement without the use of laxative.  My stomach gets super bloated and I cannot pass stool!  I take the last two weeks I have went to the bathroom twice, 12-13 hours after the use of a laxative.

Recently I have had sudden server lower (left) back pain that shoots down my left hip. Has anyone ever had this happen? Is it possible for the back pain/surgery/bowel movement problem to be related? If so, what do you think it is caused from?

Just thought I would see what someone with a similar problems thought, or if they have seen their doctor what they were told.  I made an appt. with my doctor a couple of weeks ago; he is 2 1/2 hours away and unable to see me for 3 more weeks! This back pain hurts, last time it went away within a couple of hours...Today I have now had it for about two in a half house and whenever I move it shoots threw my back left side???

The back pain thing sounds like a muscle spasm. Have you tried stretching/massage/ice/heat? Any of those, or all of those, should relieve what is going on. Note that the sciatic nerve runs down each leg, and a muscle spasm in your lower back or gluteus muscle can irritate this nerve.

Welcome, and sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. What you are describing sounds like what I went thru prior to my colectomy.
In a nutshell, I went from Labor day of 2010 until AFTER Thanksgiving of 2011 with NO bowel movements..and that was after 13 doses of miralax, 4 amitiza pills, 4 doses of lactulose all of this was DAILY, then every other day I had to alternate between enimas and colonoscopy preps... Needless to say, I was not happy. And the gastro I was seeing just said, "Ok, I'll see you in a month"... I was like "Hell you will!, You'll refer me to someone that will help me or you won't see me again!!" So he sent me to a continence center, the surgeon there did 2 tests, one was called an ARM (anal rectal manonetry) and the other was a defecography. In the end (no pun intended), we discovered that my large intestine had died.
So, in January of 2012 I had the entire thing removed, 2 feet of the small one, and a partial hysterectomy.
So, from someone who has been there, yes, it all related.. and it can send a lot of pain down your back :(
I would definately get to the doctor and discuss trouble you are having, it may be as simple as muscle spasms... or just some inflamation, but it would put your mind at ease to know what is going on.
