color and pain??

Ok, I have called all the nurses in my family, and even my gastro (can't get in to him until march 11th), and no one can tell me, so I am deferring to you guys..
for hte last few days my stool has been army green.. (haven't eaten or drank anything to cause it), I literally feel like crap. Exhausted, in a lot of abdominal pain, and a lot of pain in my lower back with something like charlie horses in my butt.. ??? anyone else ever gone thru this??
Don't really have much of an appetite and am always sick to my stomach (but that is normal for me), no fever, but really cold..
I know the flu has gone around our area for a while now and it has taken people a month to get over it..
Suggestions???? Thanks guys :)

You say you don't have much of an appetite, therefore I'm guessing you're not eating much? If so, the green stuff is probably bile. Your tummy has no food to digest so secretes bile instead.

Suggestions? Keep well hydrated!

Nope, not bile.. been there and do that, a LOT.. lol.. and this doesn't burn like bile does. It is still that odd green, and I have had the horrible flu for the last few days too :( Feel a bit better now than I have, but still not up to snuff. But post nasal drip has my tummy turning over constantly.. Trying to get it under control, can't wait to see gastro soon! Too much stuff going on and I would LOVE some answers. Oh well..

I experienced the exact same thing, mine got so bad I was having trouble walking and even looking at water made me sick. I was sent to the hospital once my home health nurse saw me, she called the surgeon an he had me admitted without even seeing me. I was so dehydrated that I was in complete kidney failure. It took a week to get my kidneys functioning properly. I hope your gastro gives you some solid answers! A blood test would be good just to check for dehydration.

OMG, that is crazy!! I hope they figure it out soon...thank you for sharing, again, it helps to know we are not carzy with what we are going thru..especially when you doc treats you like you are! Although, last time I told him I was worried about pain and had my 30th c.t. scan in a year, my doc did call and tell me, "well, the good news is you are NOT crazy, you know your body, the bad news is you have a greapefruit sized ovarian cyst wrapped around your good intestine...but you aren't crazy, there is a reason you are in pain"..So, hopefully he listens to me again.

I'm gonna say that part of your problem is dehydration, and that the drainage is causing the weird color, and the pain. I hope you are better by now!

Not yet, no bm's today...so I am starting to worry...Ihave had to go to the e.r. before, and they don't even do an iv. Just a c.t. scan and tell me no blockage, go home and drink. Such a waste of time and insurance money...Not sure what to do.
I have had the feeling before that I was blocked, and I wasn't, but today my stomach feels really weird..like there is a knot in the middle of it, and not really pain, but really uncomfortable. Not relaly much appetite, I am not vomiting, but nauceous.. anyway, thanks..

Just an afterthought: I've been noticing that my bm's are also sometimes green, but didn't give it much thought. Then I realized that it has to do with when I drink pepermint tea - which I drink fairly often instead of water. It could be that there are several kinds of herbal tea with "green" and without a colon, the output usually reflects the dominant color in whatever we ate or drank.
Several times in the summer I drank water with peppermint syrup, whihc contains a hefty food dye, and was really shocked to see neon green in the toilet later.

Evening all,
So... B'... thank you! I wouldn't have thought of my teas!!! and being I just had the flu, I was drinking it by the gallon! BUT, update,
been in hospital since Monday, and just got transferred to specialty hospital 4 hours from my home :( BUT, this is where I have had all my other surgeries, so that helps.. Here is what they are thinking: The blood vessels around the left ovary are VERY inflamed, and causing tremendous pressure on everything else.. and they are not sure the appendix is giving odd "messages" as well.. and apparently the inflammation has caused a minor blockage as there is sooo much scar tissue, it is all attached to each other now...
in the morning the general surgery team and the gyn surgerical team will come see me and we will come up with a game plan...
BUT.. I have another question for you guys.. I spoke to one surgeon who asked me if I ever had "pouchitis"??? This is a new animal I am not familiar with?? He said, you get burn with stool, itchy bottom, and pain when going poop... Well, yeah, I have THAT all the time, but I was always told it was because of the bile I was passing and it was normal.. So what is this pouchitis??? What has beena anyone wlse experience??? Thanks!! Keep you updated..

mrsbugzy sounds like the surgeon you talked to didn't know your case. You have an IRA, not a j-pouch, right?? Pouchitis refers to inflammation in a constructed pouch like a j-pouch, k-pouch, etc. If you have inflammation in your rectum (which you still have, I think?) that would be called proctitis...

PS I think the color of bile can vary a lot even in one person. My ileostomy outputs a lot of bile now and it's usually yellow, but in the past when I was NPO with my colon I passed bile that was the "army green" color you described.

And if you had a colectomy you no longer have an appendix!
