Good-bye stoma

:(. I think I will feel the same way.

You will always have part of your stoma, although now it will be inside of you.

It was your lifeline, it made you feel soo much better, and as much as it misbehaved sometimes, it was a part of you!

I know exactly how you feel. My stoma had become a sweet little buddy and I had the feeling we loved each other very much. I thought about how traumatized it must have been when it suddenly got pulled out of my body and made into a stoma, and how scared it must be when it had to go through another change. It's not leaving you at all, it's just going back inside where it belongs, so you're still together.
I've written about this here before, and I may have been off my rocker, but the day before my reversal I was at home waiting for friends to come by and take me out. I "heard" my stoma say, oh don't go out with your friends, let's just stay here, just the two of us." I do think that body organs, at least the intestine, can perceive at some kind of level. I went out with my friends and had time alone with my stoma later. I know it got used to being back inside very quickly, so that's good. And of course I was happy not to have to deal with a bag anymore.
It's funny to think that we are the only people who get to know this body organ so intimately. No one else in the world has any idea about "who" their intestine is.

I sooo feel the same. I'm not even having a reversal, just getting a new stoma, and I feel like I am going to miss this one so much! Sometimes when I'm changing my wafer (if I'm not in a rush ) I just look at it and feel so many warm feelings because it truly saved my life. Totally normal!

"Lol. Yeah my colon is doing that to me now (trying to plead a stay of execution) it is giving me the most solid remission in YEARS now with a week and a half to surgery... Nuts. Frankly this is driving me crazy. I "know" it would flare again if I cancelled for the second time. Completely insane- it's like it has a consciousness."

Pro, your disease is gone brah! Just in the nick of time. Phew! ;)

The feeling of "attachment" would be normal...it saved your life.

Before the surgery I/we accepted it but thought it was not going to be easy to contend with overall. Fortunately in my husband's case so far things have gone very well and hopefully will continue for years to come.

He had hoped for and the surgeon tried to give him a jpouch but as I have said many times it was not meant to be and for very good reasons. So if he had a 2 or 3 step process to go through I am sure he would have the same feeling.

You guys are so funny :) I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

I was watching tv the other day where they were interviewing various doctors and they were asking them which part of the body they really like. I was surprised that most replied with "small intestines" and their reason? "Because it's cute". Lol. Makes me wonder if they're really doctors but they are :)
