Last Remicade Infusion

Well today is my last Remicade infusion before surgery.  My surgery is June 17th.  Starting to move into the home stretch.  Not sure what to think?  I am in a way excited, but really scared at the same time.

Best of luck with your upcoming surgery. I remember feeling the same emotions....absolutely terrified and wicked excited at the same time! I was off the Remi for 6 months before my surgery. It never worked so we just discontinued it. Are you having j pouch surgery?

Very very good luck to you! Everything is going to be fine. What type of surgery are you having?

I only had five days between deciding to have surgery and the day of the operation, so I got off easy on all of the fear and anticipation the first time around. My second op was scheduled nine weeks in advance and I think I counted down the days (in excitement AND dread) every day.

I also did Remicade before surgery to no avail. Hopefully you will get a little relief with this infusion so you can be comfortable until the procedure :)

Best of luck! I am 2 weeks post surgery and the time before surgery was so hard. I questioned every minute if it was the right one. Did I really try everything? I was scared to death! My symptoms all the sudden started to ease up as well once I scheduled surgery so that didn't help as well. Now that I am out of it, I felt better UC wise immediately. Obviously, there is the surgery pain, but it is so nice not to have all the symptoms of before. There are things to get used to with the bag and I am calling the nurse all the time asking if certain things are normal, but slowly I am getting the hang of things and surgery pain is going away. Are you getting a j-pouch?

Thank you guys. I am having a permanent ileostomy. Remicade has worked for about two in a half years, but I am maxed out and my symptoms show up about five week out. I have been dealing with UC for the past 23 years. It really got bad about seven years ago, then my son passed away and that made it ten time worse. I think I am a proven fact that stress does make UC worse. I don't care what any doctor says.

I would love to hear about everyone's experiences. Knowledge is power and I need all the power I can get.

You will be surprised how quickly you bounce back and how much better you will feel with your diseased colon out of your body. The ileo takes some getting used to. I only had mine for 3 months but after a while it's just part of you and your daily routine. Again, good luck!

I'm happy for you for getting the last dose! The biggest relief was getting off all the meds. All I can say is that in inself was something to celebrate! From my experience, the being scare before the surgery was the worst part - the reality wasn't anything like what I feared.
