It's time to say goodbye ... to Blossom

Tomorrow is the big day - takedown!!!! I am grateful for every healthy day Blossom the stoma provided me, but it's time for her to go back where she belongs :) Surgery is at 8 am, with a 6:30 am call. I've got my bidet and Calmoseptine ready .... Hoping to be home by Sunday.

Hi everyone! Everything went great today. My surgeon said things went smoothly, but she did need to cut away the severely macerated skin around here the stoma was because of the excessively liquid output from the loop ileo. Otherwise, no issues at all. I am in a lot of pain, but I'm on a dilaudid pump and nothing but ice chips today. Tomorrow I get clear liquids and toast. Working on coughing and using my spirometer. I didn't get to my room until nearly 6 pm, and took a little nap. Nurses just changed shift and when they finish initial rounds, they will come back to walk with me. I still have a catheter, but it should come out in the morning, and I will also see the WOCN.

It was weird to wake up and look down to see no bag and no Blossom. I almost miss her - she did, after all, save my life. Thank you all for you well wishes and support.

YAY Alison!!!! so very glad to hear all went well!!! i'm so excited for you!! i'm sorry i wasn't clear.. my surgery is Aug 25 and i meant that i get to be the first surgery that day :) i'm having the opposite of you. i'm having my rectal stump removed and making my loop an end one. i'm very excited to have this done already, since my rectal stump has been giving me so much grief in the past 3 yrs (since i had my loop ileo done).

hope things continue to improve fast for you and you have a speedy recovery! and as MM said, blossom will never be forgotten :):) i loved that, MM! :) many hugs Alison!!

I still glance at my ostomy scar after 14 years. I contemplated taking a picture of my stoma, never named it since it was such a short phase, but I understand possibly missing Blossom. I somewhat missed mine and have overall, occasionally thru the years (in hindsight, I probably should have had a perm ostomy of sorts). Good luck on your recovery!

Yikes but yay! Did the BM feel strange? Was it all liquid? Any burn?

Sucks about the puking :( was there talk of an NG tube? Did you have trouble with vomiting after steps 1 or 2?

Alison, I didn't throw up but I had a NG tube in and it gave me chronic hiccups (like every 3 to 5 seconds) for a day straight. My doctors kept telling me it needs to stay in but I pulled it out after 2 days because I couldn't take it anymore. Luckily, I didn't throw up afterwards. Hope you're feeling better.

That's great you had a BM so soon. It took me 5 days to have one.

I don't have any burning at 12 weeks. I actually introduced hot sauce back into my diet. No problems.

Yeah, I lost a little over a foot of my colon but there was enough to do a reconnect. Sucks if that's a recurring problem with JPouch.

You're doing great. That's how I was. It will get more normal once you start eating.
