Thursday I removed the appliance to show surgeon and my skin had never looked better. He was VERY behind (waited 2 hours to be seen) - had been held over in surgery that morning. Sooooo when I put a new setup on, I felt very rushed as he & the nurse were waiting with gloves on to remove my anal closure staples.
Friday afternoon I noticed white thick discharge coming from under my wafer, seeping in around my stoma. Saturday morning I decided to change everything early & investigate the strange white goo. I now have at least two sutures producing white goo (puss ?) - both are red & swollen. The one is lumped up & I had to pull it away from the stoma to see the suture & drain the goo from it.
I took some pictures and am hoping some of you feel inclined to look at them and help me determine what to do next. I don't think it's a major infection right now - is it okay to wait until Monday to call my ostomy nurse? My temp is 99.6 - will monitor.
Within an hour of cleaning it out & new pouch on - it's been oozing again all day - slowly. I cut the wafer around the large bump & drainage hole because I feel that it draining is probably better than it not?
OY - I get so anxious about Peg. Just want her all healed up so I don't worry myself to death.
