what do you mean when you say "takedown"?
I am supposed to have my bowels put back together in a couple months and i won't have the ostomy or two stomas anymore. Is that a takedown?

Takedown is a term used mostly by people who have the j pouch procedure (ileal pouch-anal anastomosis) where it's a total proctocolectomy. Takedown is just simply the ileostomy reversal where the j pouch gets attached to the anus. It sounds like you had a bowel resection so you are being reversed and reconnected so its similar.

ok, so as far as I can tell, my next surgery is not going to be a "takedown". thanks for the clarification.

Marianne is a little offbase (first time as far as I know!!)... a "takedown" is sort of a slangy term for any time you "get rid of" an ostomy. This is also known as a "reversal" or an "ileostomy closure". It does sound like you'll be having a takedown... aka reversal... aka ileostomy closure.

I guess that's what I meant by similar but yeah, I guess it is the same thing.

I've always used 'takedown' for j pouches and 'reversal' for back to original plumbing.

I sure hope it's a reversal. My surgeon is not very forthcoming with info--and of course I have no idea waht to ask, I'm learning as I go

It sounds like a reversal. Don't be afraid to call their office and speak to someone even though you may not be sure what to ask. Just tell them you want to know what's going to happen next. Most surgeons and doctors aren't very forthcoming with info. You have to ask lots of questions.
