Cause unknown

I just feel like crying :( For the past week and especially these past 3-4 days, I haven't been drinking and eating much because there's been such a painful feeling right by my rectum every time I feel like I need to go to the restroom. This pain must be minor compared to what most of you've been through but it hurts.

It's for that reason I don't feel like eating or drinking at all. My bladder then just completely stopped letting any pee out for 2 days so it all built up inside. That was starting to hurt so I had to go to ER to have them take it out with a tube. As soon as they took it out with a tube, I got really bad chills and ran a fever of 101.5. The strange thing was that they did all sorts of exams including blood work, urine exam, CT scan of my body and x-rays of my lungs and pouch area and rectum, but nothing came up. Everything was normal. The doctor did say that there's like a fuzzy area right at the rectum that came up on my CT exam. He doesn't quite know what it is. He also tried sticking his finger in my butt to see if the connection there got narrow but that was ok too.

I do have urgency but because I eat so very little, the amount that comes out is little at a time - still watery but getting better.

The doctor says he'll prescribe Cipro for a week and also prescribed like a nutritional supplement in liquid form - it's like in juice form so I drink it twice a day morning and night. If I don't get better, he's thinking of admitting me in. It's so frustrating not knowing what's wrong but it's that pain right by my butt but it's very internal. Just curled up in my bed and the bathroom is the only company I get :(

So sorry you are dealing with this! After my first surgery I had the same kind of thing you are describing happen to me. It turned out to be an abscess in my pelvic region. I also ran a fever. I could not pee to save my life! And it was because the abscess was so large it was pressing on and cutting off my bladder. But the CT scan showed it right away. I hope you can get this figured out and feel better soon! Keep us posted.

I had a trans gluteal drain put in. Since the abscess was in my pelvic area the only way to reach it was as follows: for lack of a better description, I had a hole punched through my upper left butt cheek, a tube inserted down into the abscess and I then I had to keep the drain in for six weeks. It drained into a bag I kept strapped to my leg. It was the craziest, most uncomfortable thing. My surgeon didn't actually do the procedure .... Another doctor and a radiologist did it. I did stay in the Hospital a couple of days because I was running a fever. They let me go home after the fever broke. I had IV antibiotics then they sent me home with something oral...i cant remember which antibiotic it was.

Hopefully this isn't the case for you. Do you have any lower back pain? I was in agony with back pain....that was a big tip off to the doctors that something was up. That and the fact that I couldn't pee.

This all was a direct complication from my surgery though....that's why it happened.

No, I haven't gotten the scope yet. They said it's scheduled for tomorrow. They were going to do it on Friday last week but they had an emergency operation that they had to get to, so it was rescheduled.

Ya, this has just really been such a mystery. It really sure does feel like an abscess though. Otherwise, I don't know where this pain and fever would be coming from. My fever's calmed down a bit but went up again yesterday. Could it be that there's UC all over again with the remaining part if the rectum? Anyhow, hope they figure something out tomorrow!

Yes, they finally figured out what has been killing me! My surgeon was able to scope me yesterday and he found a big hemorrhoid right inside my rectum that was inflamed. It was the inflammation that was causing the fever and pain. They said it's very rare. I've never heard of an "inflamed" hemorrhoid.

All this time I've been seen by other surgeons because my surgeon has just been backed up with surgeries but I'm so glad he figured all this out. He couldn't understand why I had a tube up my butt. He thought it would cause me more pain so he took the tube out. Thank God! I ended up growing a huge hemorrhoid right by the anus as well during my stay at the hospital waiting for them to figure this all out. I've had hemmies before but not that big of one.

So now I'm hooked on IV 24/7 and am on a liquid diet and have that urinary tube since I couldn't pee due to the pain and pressure by my butt. They did a pee exam and told me I have UTI so they're starting me on antibiotics today. They also will start me on some loperamide for all the urgency and diarrhea.

I'm just so glad that they solved the mystery! Now to the treatment.

Oh my goodness that does indeed sound painful! What's amazing to me is that it swelled so much that you couldn't pee! Makes sense, but I just never thought of it before.

UTI probably

Pluot, the surgeons couldn't figure out where the fever was coming from at all and after seeing your reply, I asked if it could be the UTI but they said maybe. My fever has subsided but it really makes me wonder...cause I had that fever for a pretty long time.

I took Cipro for a while because surgeons couldn't figure this out so it did subside then but it went straight back up.

Tracy, oh my goodness. Mine was pretty painful but you probably went through a lot worse than I did although my pain was unbearable as well. Has it recurred to you since??
