Hello, I am currently helping my father after he had a surgery for Diverticulitis. He had an Ileostomy for a few months that ended up tearing below the stoma resulting in the quick reversal.
My question. I did not pick him up after his release from the hospital, and no instructions were sent home as to how to change the bandage. He was sent home with some non-adherent Compresses, gauze sponges and some tape and I have some Bioclusive transparent dressing that I found useful as I sort of guessed at what I was doing.
I called his doctor to ask them how to and how often I need to change the bandage and they called me back to tell me, "just keep it dry and cover it with the compress and gauze". ok, so real helpful, but as with everything else that has gone on, I end up doing my own research and helping him often times better than anyone else (yes a pat on my back, someone has to give it to me, lol).
SO I cleaned the site, mild soap, placed the non-adherent pad on, skipped the gauze sponge pad, and sealed it with some BIOCLUSIVE dressing I had. The wound isn't draining much at all, and I am not sure if maybe I sealed it, and no air will not get to it? DO I let him air it out for a while? If so, how long. And can anyone recommend how to do the dressing and how often? Thank you in advance.
