Hi there! I've been using the Hollister New Image Formaflex barriers, since my stoma has been shrinking. It's been a month since surgery, & it's down to 1"- do you guys think it will shrink some more? I wouldn't mind trying a pre-cut wafer. I've got my eye on the Flextend extended wear barriers- anyone use these? Do you like them? As it is, I get 5 days wear time, so the extended wear part would just be an added bonus. And do you guys use the barriers with tape borders or without? I'd like to try some without tape- but I sort of worry that the barrier just won't hold up as well without it! Overall I like Hollister products the best- they seem to be the most comfortable, & man, they stick!

I wouldn't jump to soon. We had our surgeries about the same time. Although mine is a loop this time. I ordered precut with my first ileostomy to soon and had some swelling from inflammation after that. Now I have some too small I can't use. Now I have to use convex due to the loop. So I may never use them as they were not. I would recommend the cut to fit at least one more time before the precut.

My surgery was over a year ago....I still use cut to fit wafers, and likely always will. I've tried precut a couple times, and they do work all right, but my stoma is kind of in between sizes, so I feel better cutting it on my own. For you, being just a month out of surgery, I would wait just a little while longer to be sure your stoma has finished shrinking.

I use wafers that do not have tape borders, and they work just fine for me. I started with tape borders right after surgery, but quickly learned that the tape irritates my skin. My average wear time is 6-7 days, so I don't think not having the tape is taking anything away in that regard.

Yup, my WOCN nurse said the same thing- much too early for pre-cut! She also thinks the pre-cut are a bit large- like they cur on the outside of the measurement line, not directly on it. I actually really like to moldable ones, so I guess I'll stick with those! Unfortunately you can't get those without tape borders...I suppose I could trim them really close, but why bother???

Cut the tape off...it only takes a second and your skin will thank you!! I actually 'modify' any wafer I use and I also use a Sure Seal to keep my irritation to a minimum.

It's all trial and error for you. The best part is there are SO MANY suggestions on this forum, one will work for you!!

It just goes to show how different everyone's bodies are, Hollister products were uncomfortable for me and I had a few blow-outs and leaks from them. I really like my Coloplast 2-piece products, they are comfortable for me and never leak. My only complaint is that they stick so well that it's difficult getting them off since I am a guy and have issues with hair (I shave it during every change).
