Hi All
I have an ileostomy - S-pouch - and tend to get stuff "stuck" so I go periodially to my out-of-town surgeon to get dilated under anesthesia and cleaned out. I haven't been in about a year. I was doing well but for last few months would have very intermittent issues and I knew I was having some back-up. I use a tube to drain my rectum as needed as well as a dilator. Fun stuff. I have been feeling nauseous, losing weight (about a pound or two a week), have no desire for alcohol (it turns my stomache) and am tired. Pregnancy test is negative.
I used the tube in March after a particularly uncomfortable evening, got a lot of blood, and was so uncomfortable I went to the hospital. They did a CT said everything looked fine. They did a brief finger exam but that was it. I could pinpoint the pain but nothing was determined. They gave me some Oxy and I went home.
A few days later, nothing was helping much and I spiked a high fever (104 and I don't run fevers). Went back to ER and they gave me cipro, said my white blood cell count was a little high. Cipro helped A LOT but it seemed like I was still discharging yellow, foul-looking and smelling mucus so I had my surgeon call in CIpro and I took it and it seemed to complete the trick. In the meantime, I was diagnosed with pneumonia so I was just a little battered at this point.
I've been doing ok, avoiding my "bad" foods but did indulge in a salad that may have had a couple corn kernels. I know, I know. about two days later, I start feeling nauseous, no appetite, and thought it was a co-worker's stomach bug. Then the fever started - bad. Then, the pain in my rectum. It's localized to the right of my rectum - which is intact - and I can feel a hard lump. I can barely sit and walk. Some naproxen has helped but I almost went back to hospital last night.
I called my general primary on call person last night and he declined to give me anything even for pain - all I wanted was another NSAID. I left a message with my surgeon but have not heard back. I'm tempted to try a suppository - what other recommendations might you have?
I'm very, very frustrated. My colitis hit me at 19 and I suffered with a pretty bad case for almost ten years before being told my colon needed to come out because cancer was imminent. And that surgery was a whole mess, too and I almost died when I got reconnected once because I backed so far up with waste and food. So I'm just at my wit's end these days.
Thanks for listening.
