Hi guys - I had colostomy surgery on April 28th. Reversal will be 4-6 months down the road. I live in Vegas & it's so hot I want to go swimming or to the lake. But when I get my stoma wet the seal starts to peel. Anyone recommend a good seal to apply to skin first? I go through EdgePark for my supplies....thanks!

Try and find some Sure Seals. They go over top of your flange. I use them all summer and I still get a week in between changes and I am in the water a lot!
Good luck!

I was going to suggest the Sure Seals also, they work great!! You can order free samples on their website if you live in the US or Canada. Here it the link...good luck!

How do you use those Sure Seals? I see they are rings, do you cut them and place them over the entire flange? Do they really keep the water out? Even when I shower it seems the edges of my Coloplast Sensura start coming off. I was wondering how to deal with swimming or taking a bath. Beyond keeping things sealed, do people typically use a pouch cover and/or a smaller pouch?

The hole in the sure seals fits perfectly around my flange, no need to cut it at all, but i'm sure you could if you did need to adjust the size of the
opening. They are a very thin material, kind of like the adhesive layer they use over IV sites in hospitals sometimes. They cover the entire flange and beyond the edges and they DO really keep the water out!
As far as the pouch goes, I don't use anything different while bathing or swimming. Pouch covers aren't water proof, so that would just be another bulky, wet layer to deal with. You could wear a smaller pouch, especially in the tub...but while out swimming, I would worry it would fill up to quickly and just be a nuisance.

Bania,
For days I don't change my pouch, I cover my pouch with glad seal wrap. It sticks right to my skin. When I'm under the shower spray I keep my arm over the top so the spray don't wash off the wrap. It will have a little leakage, but not much. I had to use it when I had a bad batch of flanges that came off to easy when wet. I have a better one now so don't use it. But it's also. Nice because then you don't have to worry about
drying the pouch afterwards.

I have a sample of sure seals I ordered pre-surgery, & haven't tried them yet- but it's Summer, I live on Cape Cod, swimming is about
to happen! So do you put the sure seal on, & leave it on after it gets wet? Or do you need to replace it with a new sure seal every time you swim?

Thanks for all the replys! I did order the sample of the SureSeal so hopefully that will work. I saw a youtube video about
a seal that the guy put directly on his skin, then the flange, then another seal and he said it works great with no leakage and lasted 4-5 days showering & swimming...

The sure seals work to keep water off flange but are not so good if you are working out hard in pool and sweating from the skin. I find they fall off real fast because you can't dry the flange and it can't breath to dry.
I swim and train everyday and if the edges get loose I find I can blow dry them back down in some cases or tape them with medical tape around edges, and keep them on for another day or so.
I use Hollister which is the best I have found for me, but it seems to depend on chemistry of body how one company or another's stays ona person's skin the best.
