Itchy skin

My 12 year old son has a loop ileostomy and has been finding that the skin under his bag gets super itchy. We have tried changing to a different brand to see if that makes the difference, but these are the only bags that seems to stick properly. We use Hollister Moderma Flex and also Coloplast Sensura, plus we use Coloplast Brava strips for extra security against leakage. But lately he has been so itchy on the skin there and ends up scratching the bags off. I'm not sure what would help underneath to soothe the skin to stop the itching, we use Coloplast skin lotion wipe on the skin before putting on the bag. I read somewhere in a previous post about Friars Balsam, we tried this but he said it really hurt and felt like it was burning. Any advice? Thanks.

Is his skin red and infected? Has he been to an ostomy nurse to check it out?

Thanks for your replies. He has had an ileostomy for nearly 12 months. The skin isn't red or inflamed and it mostly a problem with the coloplast bags which is a shame because other than this issue he really likes using the coloplast bags. I will try the coloplast protective sheets when I put in next order, thanks for the idea.

that coloplast brava stuff definitely can cause yeast infections and extra itchiness. It holds moisture way too much. Ditch that and try hollister adapt rings or slim eakins. Also when you clean his skin ... once you gently figure out a way to get that brava goo off... do not use anything else other than warm water. and dry his skin with a gentle heat blow dryer before applying anything else.

He may have already developed a yeast infecton from that brava stuff holding moisture in. If thats the case, get a prescription for nystatin powder.. And use it liberally and follow with barrier wipe before adapt rings and wafer.
you can still use coloplast bags... but ditch everything else coloplast
