Not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this question, but I figured I'd try....
So, i'm in the process of undergoing tests to determine what parts of the colon and other stuff should be removed when they do surgery to create an ostomy for me. In the mean time, I have severe constipation and only go every 13-14 days, when I drink bowel prep and take some other laxatives for a purge/clean-out. No action at all between purges.
The problem: my skin around my exit hole in my butt (is that the anus? i'm blanking on a name for it) is very red, raw, and irritated. Sort of stings a bit too. I've been told that it's a result of moisture from wearing depends 24 hrs/day for several days after a purge, and just from the wiping and bit of moisture on my skin after having a BM. Often, when I do a purge, I end up having a little bit of leakage over the following 24 hours or so after the "main event" is over. I have bowel incontinence, so I do need the depends, but I end up sitting in the moisture for quite some time without even realizing it's there. Anyway, on to my question....anyone use Aquaphor for something like that? I ask about that specific product cuz I have a pretty big container of it at home already. I do use the charmin fresh mates flushable wipes instead of dry toilet paper. What's the "bad" chemical to look out for in those type of wipes?
I try to sleep without the depends on when I can to let some air on the area. But on days when I don't use the depends, I wear a pad, which probably doesn't help the situation either.
Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
Sunny.
